SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego artist wants to paint murals around the city that she hopes can help bring an end to gun violence."My concept is just something beautiful that people can take a picture in front of and just really enjoy the artwork of it but also take a message away from it," says Hanna Daly.Her concept is a series of artworks that look like colorful doorways. Each will have a message written above them, like 'Thoughts and Prayers Aren't Enough.""I thought it could be, like, a doorway to change," Daly says. "You walk away from it thinking, maybe there's a little something I can do. Like a doorway you step through it and now you're part of the cause."Daly became part of the cause last year, when her brother comitted suicide. He had shot himself in the head."Then a few weeks after that was Las Vegas," she says. "And then another shooting and another. It just kept hitting me, so I finally thought I should do something."Daly is working with with the Brady Campaign and Moms Demand Action on the project. She has the designs, just not the space to paint them."We need some people with some great walls out there that are visible, on main drags, where people are going to see it, where we can create some beautiful art, but that has a strong message," she says.She's hoping to paint the murals in high traffic areas like the Gaslamp District or along the boardwalks near beaches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hazardous Materials Team is investigating a Rancho Bernardo residence following reports of a possible fentanyl overdose death at the home Thursday morning.Crews responded at around 4 a.m. to calls of an overdose at a residence at 11300 Calenda Road located a few blocks from Westwood Elementary School.First responders discovered an unconscious 27-year-old male. The victim was declared deceased at the scene, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials. Neighbors told 10News the man lived at the home with his parents.While at the scene, our 10News crew saw a woman being escorted out of the house and placed in an ambulance. It’s still unclear how she’s involved.The San Diego County Medical Examiner will identify the man and confirm his cause of death. 800

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A North Park family is appealing for tips after a former high school football star - and recent college graduate - was injured in a drive-by shooting."They thought it was fireworks at first," said Dawn Kinder.Sisters Denisha Montgomery and Dawn Kinder say two Fridays ago, their brother Devante Kinder, 24, and three friends had spent a day at the beach and were driving up to his driveway near Meade Ave. around 9:40 p.m. Devante was at the wheel of the used Mercedes SUV he had saved up to purchase, when neighbors heard about nine shots ring out, and a car drive away. Devante was shot twice in the face."The only thing he could think of was to save his life, and he drove himself to the hospital," said Montgomery.Soon after, his sisters got the news."Unreal and didn't believe it at first actually. There is no way he could be injured in this way," said Montgomery.One of the bullet entered Devante's neck, shattered his cheekbone and lodged in his sinus cavity. The other one grazed his cheekbone."He's devastated ... asking himself why it was him," said Montgomery.His sisters say Devante does not have any enemies. Devante, a football standout at Mission Bay High School, went on to graduate from San Jose State six months ago. He returned home and recently got hired for engineering position in March."Starting his career, saving money. All he could talk about was buying his own condo," said Montgomery.Those plans have been put on pause by the drive-by shooting. Amid a national dialogue on racial injustice, Devante's sisters say they know many families impacted by violence."It's something that shouldn't be happening. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A motorcyclist allegedly involved in street racing and other dangerous acts on San Diego roadways was arrested, the California Highway Patrol announced Wednesday.CHP officials said a search warrant was executed for 32-year-old San Diego resident Scott Anthony Meiner, who is linked to “numerous street racing and reckless driving incidents.”Meiner is also “believed to have fled from several police officers from various law enforcement agencies in San Diego County on numerous occasions,” the CHP said.Following the execution of the search warrants, Meiner was taken into custody and booked into San Diego County Jail on charges of felony evading, reckless driving, speed contest, and being an unlicensed driver.According to the CHP, Meiner was identified as the motorcyclist who was recorded on March 29 speeding 181 MPH on the southbound HOV lane of Interstate 15 in Mira Mesa. 907
