The USPS is honoring military dogs with its newest set of forever stamps.The four new stamp designs each features a different dog breed that represents the most common military dogs — a German shepherd, a labrador retriever, a Belgian malinois and a Dutch shepherd.According to a press release from the USPS, dozen of dog breeds have been used by all branches of the military. Dogs have served and aided soldiers in all American wars dating back to World War I.The dogs were hand-sketched by artists at DKNG studios before being colorized in Adobe Illustrator. She says she’s never felt out of place because of the color of her skin. “There’s no racism here,” she says. “I don’t feel it. I’ve never felt it in all my life.”Now, those living in the close-knit community are trying to heal after a gunman killed 22 people and injured dozens of others Saturday at a local Walmart. Police say the 21-year-old white, male suspect is believed to be the author of a racist, anti-Hispanic 2,300-word document found online. Police say the manifesto was filled with white nationalist language and blamed immigrants for taking away jobs. El Paso has found itself at the center of the Trump administration’s hardline stance on immigration due to its proximity to the border. Marisa Limon Garza with the Hope Border Institute says the community is family and that include El Pasoans and Mexican nationals, just across the border in Juarez. “These border lands, these fences, these structures, are things that were imposed on us,” she says. But this has been a binational community for so long, and it’s one we find great beauty in.”It’s a melting pot of immigrants and Mexican nationals, and the community sees it as an asset. “This city is surviving because of the people coming from Juarez, says Brown. “What people don’t realize is they are part of this economy. The people that were at Walmart, they were shopping for clothes, school supplies, just like all of us.”Brown says when the shooting happened, she did worry the community—this family—might have been shattered. But that isn’t the case.“Because really, he didn’t; he brought us together. He united us,” Brown says of the shooter. 1931

The Bee selected the 4,000 words for Words of the Champions from the Bee’s official dictionary, Merriam-Webster Unabridged. Words of the Champions replaces “Spell It!,” a collection of 1,150 words used by students to prepare for spelling bees since 2006. Each year, the Bee will refresh Words of the Champions by replacing 800 words. “Spellers and teachers told us they wanted more words, and we’ve delivered,” said Paige Kimble, executive director for the Bee. “This broader list was designed to challenge and inspire students and is the culmination of a year of research and development by our team.” Nested in Words of the Champions are 450 words sourced from the 18 engaging and grade-appropriate books included in the Bee’s 2020 Great Words, Great Works reading program. By reading the books, students can gain a deeper understanding of the words they are learning to spell. As they begin their spelling bee journey, they will spell many of these 450 words in classroom and school spelling competitions. The suspect in the deadly shooting in El Paso, Texas, has been placed on suicide watch based on the recommendation of medical staff at the jail, the El Paso Times reported, citing an official with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.Patrick Crusius, 21, of Allen, Texas, is being held without bond on capital murder charges in the shooting that left 22 people dead and more than a dozen wounded.He is accused of opening fire earlier this month on unsuspecting shoppers in a Walmart in the far western Texas city near the Mexican border.Police say Crusius surrendered and identified himself as the shooter following the massacre.
