PlayStation 4's latest update gives parents a lot more power.On Wednesday, Sony rolled out a PS4 software update for its gaming console with several new features -- most notably, the ability for adults to restrict how long a child uses the system.Other new features include more personalization and improved image quality for games played on HDTVs.Adults can now keep track and control the length of PS4 playtime for children. PHOENIX — From top restaurants to moving companies, you have probably used Yelp before to find businesses to use. But have you ever thought to use the website to find a daycare?The site can sometimes be a dumping ground for complaints. So, is it credible when looking for someone to look after a child? Researchers at Arizona State University decided to find out.The study included 40 cities and roughly 50,000 submissions on nearly 10,000 childcare facilities. Three of those 40 cities were Phoenix, Mesa and Tucson.Researchers tell KNXV even they were shocked by the findings.They found, through the reviews, that a majority of parents were meticulous and detailed. More than 75 percent gave a 5-star review.As for why they decided research like this was important, ASU said they wanted to see exactly what parents were looking for in childcare, what they were saying in these reviews and how uncovering that could lead to policy changes that could benefit all children.But, despite overwhelmingly positive reviews, lower-income families often reported more bad experiences, disrespect and a lack of learning for their children.Chris Herbst, an associate professor at ASU, was deeply involved in this study. He hopes this research will encourage parents to keep documenting their experiences."It provides this sort of learning loop for childcare providers," Herbst explained. "So, if providers know the parents... feel a certain way about the program, then providers can use this information to inform their... quality improvement activities."While these reviews are a good start, Herbst stresses that parents have plenty of tools they can use, beyond just basing it on online reviews.One suggestion he gives is using the Quality Rating and Improvement System.Parents can search their state and look-up different facilities to see how this system evaluates and rates the program's quality.KNXV also reached out to Erin Raden for more tools and advice for parents. She is the executive director of the Arizona Early Childhood Education Association.In regards to using online reviews like Yelp, Raden said it is good to use. However, it should not be the only way you make a childcare decision."You may have a parent that's upset about something," Raden said. "And that might be the right choice for them to no longer take their child there. But that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be the right choice for you."Raden also suggests taking your time and visiting at least two or three facilities."It's just going to be a lot about what feels right to you and you should always trust your instincts," Raden explained.She said that it is not about a facility being the most beautiful place, but instead look at how the students are engaged with their instructors. 2826

Pharmacists will be instrumental in getting the first round of COVID-19 vaccines out, especially for the most vulnerable.Walgreens and CVS have a deal with the U.S. Department of Health to go into more than 50,000 long-term care facilities. Both companies are still recruiting pharmacists, nurses and pharmacy technicians.“I am absolutely supportive of getting a vaccine and I will be the first in line when I am eligible to get one. I believe in vaccines. I believe in the science of vaccines,” said Tasha Polster, who deals with pharmacy quality, compliance and patient safety at Walgreens.Once the vaccine is more widely available, people will be able to sign up online to get the vaccine at a pharmacy location.Walgreens plans to work with communities to set up COVID-19 vaccine sites in other locations, like they do with the flu shot.“We work with churches and local community centers in underserved populations to bring the vaccine to those patients that would you know need them,” said Polster.Speaking of the flu, the pandemic has brought some encouraging news on that front.Walgreens created special map models to show what the flu season has done so far this year compared to last year. PHOENIX, Arizona — Cell phone video of a boy repeatedly punching a girl in a sixth-grade class at Alfred F. Garcia Elementary School in Phoenix has gone viral, and the mother of the victim is upset with the school for not contacting her after the beating. The 12-year-old girl who was punched did not want to show her face or give her name, but says a lot of kids in school have seen the video. "It's gotten to the point where it's so viral, that they've made memes about it," said the victim.The girl used to be friends with the boy who is seen punching her, but she claims she made a joke months ago about his sister. She says she feels the attack was planned and some kids pulled out their phones to record it.  "I looked at the phone, and I knew it was coming," said the victim. "That's why I didn't do anything about it."The victim says she didn't tell her mom because she didn't want her to worry. "It was hard telling her because I don't like seeing my mom cry," said the victim. "It hurts."But her mom, Antoinette Contreras saw it days later.  "It just feels like all my fears and worst thoughts happened," said Contreras. "They came true."Contreras says she is shocked the school never contacted her. She finally got through to the principal on Thursday. "My question to her was, 'Why did you not contact me?'" said Contreras. "This happened on Monday. It is now Thursday."And while she wants the boy to face consequences, more importantly, Contreras wants him to get help. "I come from, what we call the ghetto, south Phoenix," said Contreras. "A lot of times these kids are rejected. They're the rejects of the world. The outcasts. The misfits. They're the ones that no one cares about. Because the parents don't care about them at home. And the staff doesn't care about them at school. And no one on the streets cares about these kids."Contreras says she plans to pull all of her children out of the Murphy Elementary School District. She will also bring the issue to district officials and police. There is a new law that goes into effect next school year that requires school officials to notify parents after violent incidents.  2211
