ATLANTA — The funeral for the late civil rights icon and congressman John Lewis will be held Thursday at Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, which the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once led. Lewis’ family announced that the funeral will be private, but the public is invited to pay tribute over the coming days during a series of celebrations of Lewis’ life beginning Saturday in his hometown of Troy, Alabama. It's a coffee run they make just about every day.The co-worker ordered a white chocolate mocha and an iced caramel macchiato and told the barista his name is Pedro, Hernandez said.But she said that when he brought back the drinks, she noticed that "beaner" was written on her drink instead of Pedro. "Beaner" is a derogatory term for Mexicans in the US."I asked him if he realized what they had put on his cup. He said no. So I was really upset about it, because that isn't OK," she said.Hernandez said she called the store and they told her their employee couldn't understand what Pedro had told them. They also offered a gift card."Out of all the names they could've put on his coffees for 'misunderstanding' him they decide to put 'beaner,'" she said, noting that the Starbucks employees apparently understood Pedro well enough to get his drink orders right.Hernandez followed up with a complaint to Starbucks on Twitter. BAKERFIELD, Calif. - An Oildale, Calif. 11-year-old tried to kill himself after his tablet was taken away, according to court documents obtained by Scripps affiliate KERO-TV.The documents show Kern County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Woodrow Avenue Sunday evening for reports of an attempted suicide.The boy's mother told deputies she found her son hanging in his bedroom closet by a sweater.The mother said she pulled him from the makeshift noose and called 911. Deputies performed CPR when they got there and the boy was then taken to the hospital for further treatment. At least eight nursing home residents have died in Hollywood, Florida, according to the New York Times and NBC News.The deaths may be due to the loss of the home's air-conditioning after Hurricane Irma struck Sunday, according to CNN affiliate WPLG.
