In a blog post on Thursday, Twitter says it has suspended more than 1.2 million accounts for promoting terrorism-related content between August 2015 and December 2017.The announcement came as part of the company's 12th biannual Twitter Transparency Report. The company also reported that more that 274,000 of those accounts were suspended in the last reporting period from July 2017 and December 2017, and nearly three quarters of those accounts were suspended before even sending a tweet.Terror groups like ISIS have been known to be active on Twitter, and use the social networking site as a recruiting tool to attract new members.Despite Twitter's report, the company continues ot face criticism on how it handles issues relating to harassment and hate speech. In December, the company announced new rules for banning accounts that affiliate with white nationalism and other groups that promote hate speech. 922

In a joint press release on Thursday, a group of Trump administration officials called the 2020 election "the most secure in American history," directly contradicting the President. In their statement, the members of the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council (GCC) Executive Committee added that "there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised."“While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too," the statement read, in part. "When you have questions, turn to elections officials as trusted voices as they administer elections.”The statement added that all states that use computerized voting systems also have paper records of each vote, meaning states can further verify results if needed.Ten members of the GCC signed the statement. The press release was issued by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security. The GCC is a coalition of federal government agencies, as well as state election offices and secretaries of state with the goal of providing security and "resilience strategies" for elections of all levels across the country.Their statement directly contradicts claims made by President Donald Trump, who has not yet conceded to President-elect Joe Biden. Trump has claimed without evidence that the 2020 presidential election was beset by widespread voter fraud. The Trump campaign has filed several lawsuits in key battleground states to contest the results of the election, but the suits have not yet fundamentally altered the state of the race. 1800

Hundreds of thousands of people braved wet and windy weather to attend Pope Francis' Mass at Phoenix Park in Dublin on Sunday, while thousands more gathered in the city center for protests against clerical sexual abuse amid fresh reports the Pontiff ignored allegations stretching back years."We ask forgiveness for the abuses in Ireland," said Pope Francis at the Mass, listing a litany of abuses including clerical sex crimes, a lack of compassion and action by church leaders and the separation of single mothers and children in industrial laundries."We ask forgiveness for all the times that we, as the church, did not provide survivors of any kind of abuse compassion, to look for justice, and the truth, and concrete actions, so we ask forgiveness," Pope Francis said at the Mass, which was expected to attract over 500,000 people and concludes his two-day visit to Ireland. The visit coincides with the World Meeting of Families, a gathering of the Catholic Church that was thrown into chaos last week by a Pennsylvania grand jury report detailing decades of sexual abuse and cover-ups by clerics. 1111

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif., (KGTV) — After six grueling days on the fire line, members of the San Diego-based Strike Team called to fight the Kincade Fire are back home. 10News met with the fire crew from Imperial Beach, who said this was the first time in 11 years that they were called to assist in Northern California. Today, they were back on duty, just hours after their arrival. It's just another day at the Imperial Beach firehouse. Fire Engineer Cory Cooper, firefighter Nick Morales, and Captain Ehren Kahle are cleaning up their ride, Engine 39, after a long trip up north. "It was just kind of a gentle immersion into chaos," Kahle said. Last Friday, the three were part of a large San Diego-based Strike Team called to assist in Sonoma County. As soon as they arrived, they headed straight to the fire line. "It started out with light smoke, which progressively got worse, to a point where my engineer had difficulty seeing the road at some point," Kahle said. Buildings had crumbled, citizens were in chaos. But they were there, fighting the explosive flames, seemingly non-stop."We rest when we can," Kahle laughed. Once the spread slowed down, the team headed back home. The men arrived at 11 p.m. on Thursday. While firefighters in larger departments are given a 24-hour rest period, these guys with the small Imperial Beach department are already back on shift."We're right back to our normal routine."It's day-to-day calls like these, as well as being part of a large Strike Team that reminds Captain Kahle of the true camaraderie of the fire service. "Although I may be going out on a Strike Team with men that I have never worked with or never even met in my entire life, you can probably take a firefighter off of an engine from San Diego, Coronado, National City, or Poway, throw them onto their engine, and they will drive right into that crew and be able to function," Kahle said. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that she's still hopeful lawmakers can reach an agreement on another COVID-19 stimulus bill, though Democrats and Republicans remain far apart in certain areas.Pelosi said Thursday that Democrats and Republicans still remain far apart when it comes to additional unemployment funding, as well as more funding for local and state governments. When asked if she believed this was the last chance to strike a stimulus deal ahead of Election Day, Pelosi said she would continue to hold out hope that Congress could reach a deal all the way up to election day.Pelosi's comments come the day that billions of dollars in stimulus funding provided through the CARES Act for the airline industry expired. American Airlines said Wednesday that it would go ahead with the furlough of nearly 20,000 pilots, and other airlines say massive layoffs are coming. There is reportedly bipartisan support to extend more funding for the airline industry, but Democrats are hoping to roll those benefits into a more extensive bill.White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany blamed Pelosi for airline furloughs and layoffs during a briefing on Thursday, claiming that she wasn't "being serious" in her negotiations. 1241
