SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Former KUSI anchor Sandra Maas is suing the station for million, alleging retaliatory termination and violation of the Equal Pay Act. Maas’ attorneys claim McKinnon Broadcasting Company and the company's actions “have caused, and will continue to cause, Maas emotional distress and loss of earnings."Maas was hired by KUSI in 2004 as a morning news co-anchor. In 2010, she was promoted to evening co-anchor. The lawsuit states Maas initiated additional duties for herself in 2016 when she started writing, producing and anchoring a weekly segment called “Healthy Living.” In 2017, court documents say Maas suspected she was underpaid compared to her male peers. The lawsuit claims her suspicions were confirmed when a former manager told her a male co-anchor was being paid ,000 more than her per year. The lawsuit states that in December of 2017, Maas brought up the issue of pay inequity during contract negotiations and “was given the runaround.” After sending a written complaint to her manager and the station’s general manager, Mike McKinnon Jr., the lawsuit says McKinnon told Maas he “did not like the tone of [her] email.”The last few paragraphs of the lawsuit claim failure to provide equal pay to women, gender and/or age discrimination, failure to prevent discrimination, and retaliation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Green Flash Brewery has been sold to a new investment group, continuing a turbulent start to the year for the San Diego-based brewery.The company announced Monday the finalized sale to the group made up of "individuals with extensive experience" in craft beer and food and beverage industries.In a letter to shareholders published on The Full Pint, CEO Mike Hinkley said the company's lender, Comerica Bank, had "foreclosed on its loans and sold the assets of the company ... to WC IPA LLC."RELATED: National City adopts 'craft beer ordinance' to attract breweriesGreen Flash had reportedly taken on a loan for the development of a Virginia Beach, Va., brewery, which has also closed."As such, the Company no longer owns the Green Flash and Alpine businesses. Comerica Bank is currently conducting a separate process to sell the Virginia Beach brewery," the letter continued.The Virginia brewery closing followed that of Green Flash's Poway barrel-aging facility, Cellar 3, also closing this year. The Green Flash and Alpine Beer Company brands, the latter of which was picked up by Green Flash in 2014, will continue."The Green Flash and Alpine breweries will continue to operate in San Diego and Alpine, respectively," a release by the brewery said.In the letter, Hinkley blamed a "general slowdown" in the craft beer industry and increased competition as causes of the sell-off. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of people packed the stands at the Coronado High School football field Friday, for a celebration of life in honor of Justin Meek.The Coronado High School graduate was one of the 12 people killed at the Thousand Oaks shooting on Nov. 7.The 23-year-old is remembered as a hometown hero, as he died helping protect others from the gunman’s bullets.RELATED: Coronado native among victims of the Thousand Oaks bar shootingMeek moved to Thousand Oaks to attend California Lutheran University. He worked at the Borderline Bar and Grill. Though he often worked as a security guard, the night of the shooting, he and his sister were working as promoters for ‘College Night’ events. When the gunshots started, Justin began helping people get out of harm's way. He was shielding them from gunfire when he was shot and killed. His sister made it out of the bar. The Meek family released a written statement that described Justin’s strong interest in the safety of others since Sept. 11. After college, Meek's family said he wanted to join the Coast Guard and then go on to become a U.S. Marshall. Meek’s mother served in the Air Force, his father served in the Navy, and he too felt a strong call to service.“Justin was a genuine, kind, loving, caring, compassionate, hardworking, talented man and a friend to everyone he met,” the statement reads. “He was a loving son, protective brother, and hero to all.”There is a paddle out for Meek on Saturday morning. At this time it's unclear what caused the fire. Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the area as passersby drove on the roadway.  381

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For the third day in a row, the county is reporting record-high coronavirus numbers.The county is reporting 440 new cases Friday, bringing the total to 12,401.In addition to new cases, the county also hit one of its 13 triggers. County officials said Friday that the average number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has increased by 19 percent in three days.
