SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several University Heights residents are searching for a parrot they say flew out of their home and hasn’t been seen since. According to the owners, the 18-year-old parrot named Lily flew out of their home on Rhode Island Street on January 7. According to a Lily’s owners, the bird can fly but isn’t used to it. The parrot has a blue chest and head and the rest of her body is green. The search is becoming more and more dire, according to Lily’s owners. "It really feels very impossible,” said Mary Beth Cruden. On top of Lily not having food and water, nights have been cold across the county. "Really devastated about it. I loved the bird, the bird loved me,” William Smith told 10News. Lily’s empty cage now sits at the end of the driveway. Bird experts say if she smells something familiar she may come home. The family is hoping someone spots their beloved pet. "I would expect her to come walking up that street on her little two feet, she's practically a human being,” Smith said. Smith says if you spot Lily on the ground, hold your fingers close to her chest and she should hop on. Then hold on tight. The pair is offering a 0 reward to anyone who returns Lily. 1203

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Sara Jacobs, winner of the race to replace the retiring Susan Davis in California's 53rd district, is getting ready to begin the transition to Congress."Kind of feels like college. I’ll be going to freshman orientation, picking my office room, staffing my office. Talking with congresswoman Davis, to others about a transition. And then getting ready so that as soon as I get sworn in, I can hit the ground running," Jacobs told ABC 10News.Jacobs says the new Congress' first priority will be helping the nation bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic. She says she'll insist any new round of stimulus spending will include funding to help small businesses and families, including child care.In her victory speech, Jacobs pointed out that at 31, she'll be one of the youngest members of Congress, and just the third woman to represent the San Diego region. Aeiramique Glass Blake, an activist and friend of Jacobs, says her election is inspiring to young San Diegans. "As young people, we need somebody who understands the dynamic and the perspective that we are coming from," says Glass Blake.Glass Blake says that while she knows Jacobs will work hard to represent all members of her district, she also realizes the importance of serving as a young woman in Congress. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Soon after the pandemic forced Chollas Creek Elementary to close its campus back in March, parents have been able to pick up meals for their children they usually received while attending classes.To help provide this service to families, the San Diego Food Bank helps distribute boxes of food to those who need it.Food Bank CEO James Floros says the organization is now serving 47 school sites in eight different districts.Before the pandemic, the Food Bank helped around 350,000 people; that number has now doubled.With distance learning continuing into the fall, non-profits, the districts, and the county are all trying to make sure kids don't go hungry while they learn at home."We knew when COVID hit that this was going to be a marathon, not a sprint and even if we had a vaccine tomorrow and COVID went away... now we're in a recession and we could be doing this for the next couple of years," Floros said.If parents can't make it to their child's school regularly to pick up meals, they can go to the Food Bank's super pantries.There are dozens of locations all over the county, each open at least three days a week to provide groceries.In addition to the Food Bank, Feeding San Diego is also partnering with local school districts to distribute food.Both websites have sections to look up where to get food in your neighborhood and what resources are available.At many locations, all you have to do is show up, no questions asked."There's enough food for everybody they just need to reach out to the San Diego Food Bank, we'll help their families," said Floros.TO HELP OR FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE SERVICES go to:https://feedingsandiego.org/get-help/https://sandiegofoodbank.org/gethelp/ 1731

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a photo Friday of a suspect wanted in the death of a woman in Point Loma.Joe Bennette Conway, 41, shot the unidentified woman in the parking lot of 4013 W. Point Loma Blvd. late on the night of October 9, police said.911 dispatchers received a call about the shooting. Police units found a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital, where she died.Police identified Conway as the murder suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. Conway is 5’7” tall and 150 pounds.
