SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Old Town San Diego bar and restaurant offered 22 cent beers for 22 minutes Tuesday to poke fun at burglars who stole .All 22 of the draft beers were discounted at Home and Away, 2222 San Diego Avenue, exactly 36 hours after the 3:07 a.m. break-in."Just the whole thing is extremely ironic and funny," said employee Jason Clay. "The comedic value I got was thinking about the time that they gambled with their life to get the amount that they did, and drilling that safe open and seeing the dollars that was in there. That's the best part."Surveillance video shows two men with baggy pants force their way into the bar Monday at 3:07 a.m. One tries unsuccessfully to pry open a cash register, then joins his partner in a back room where the two grab the safes. While leaving, they fumble the safes and nearly drop their drawers. "They were probably Raiders fans," Clay deadpanned, gesturing to his Kansas City Chiefs hat.The suspects have not been identified. 996

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb is now threatening swift punishment and even legal action against guests and hosts who throw or allow parties. The vacation rental giant says it is banning parties and capping occupancy to 16. The company cited COVID restrictions as part of its rationale."Some have chosen to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform," Airbnb said in a statement. "We think such conduct is incredibly irresponsible – we do not want that type of business, and anyone engaged in or allowing that behavior does not belong on our platform."In San Diego, home to at least 11,000 vacation rentals, both residents and hosts praised the move. Andrew Kaperonis owns a home in Mission Beach sandwiched between two vacation rentals. Things got so bad with the unit to the south that he took the owner to court, ultimately making the situation better with a required seven-day minimum stay. It still, however, is a vacation rental. "You get a little bit of anxiety because you just don't know who you are going to get," he said. "You're always kind of looking around and going, 'oh, who's checking in today?'"Kaperonis said Airbnb's party ban is a step in the right direction, but questioned how it would be enforceable. Airbnb says it maintains a 24-hour hotline and rapid response teams. People can also message the site. Hosts also told ABC-10News they backed the move. Blaine Smith, owner of 710 Vacation Rentals, which manages 180 listings largely in Mission Beach, said it's good Airbnb is holding people accountable.Smith says he vets reservations and will decline them if he senses there will be a problem, but not everyone does. "I know a lot of these neighbors, I'm not trying to upset any one of them, whereas if you're a single owner that does not live in the area, I think that's where a lot of the issues come from," he said. Cy Pilkington, who manages four vacation rentals in La Jolla and Pacific Beach, said he was glad Airbnb was taking the stance. He is an on-site manager for three of the units and does not allow parties. "We want people to be able to come and enjoy a piece of our life that they normally can't have, when they live inland or hotter communities or rural communities that want to come and enjoy the beach," he said. The city of San Diego has failed to implement any new regulations on vacation rentals. The City Council passed an ordinance instituting rules in 2018, but rescinded it after a referendum funded by Airbnb. 2496

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Accusations of altering documents to receive federal money. That’s the claim in court records against Argosy University, which operates The Art Institute of California in San Diego. Court documents accuse the university of charges including changing submissions to the Department of Education to get student financial funds. Argosy University operates more than a dozen locations across the country, including the Art Institute of California in Mission Valley. The Department of Education sent millions of dollars to Argosy. RELATED: Students concerned for future of Art Institute of California - San DiegoWhat it didn’t know and what’s alleged in court documents is the university was using the money that was supposed to go to students to pay for things like operating expenses. The filing was made on behalf of a court-appointed receiver, the independent outside party to handle the university’s finances. 10News reported earlier that the Education Department stopped all financial aid to Argosy. In July of 2018, the Art Institute in Mission Valley stopped enrolling new students. Current students say they’re frustrated and nervous. 10News reached out to Argosy’s parent company for a response but hasn’t heard back. 1250

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An autopsy report for a San Diego State student who died after falling from his bed after a night of partying revealed elevated alcohol levels. The report from the county Medical Examiner found that Dylan Hernandez, 19, died of blunt force injuries of head and ruled his death an accident. At the time of the autopsy, a toxicology report said elevated alcohol levels of 0.06 percent and cannabinoids were found in his system. However, earlier reports from campus police said he had a 0.23 percent blood-alcohol level the morning he fell.Hernandez fell from his bunk bed in the early morning hours of Nov. 7, 2019, after a fraternity party that night. He was helped back into bed, before his roommate found him later that morning unresponsive, the ME reported.RELATED:Cause determined after San Diego State University student diesSan Diego State suspends 14 fraternities after student is hospitalizedAccording to the ME, Hernandez suffered a fractured skull, causing a brain bleed and leading to his death the next day. This month, Hernandez's family told 10News they were concerned about the investigation into their son's death. The family said they believed campus police were not pursuing certain angles, including a possible cover-up."The Hernandez family is concerned because witnesses they provided to SDSU and UPD still have not been questioned," George Kindley, the Hernandez family's lawyer, said.Hernandez's family claims SDSU Police never sought out warrants for Snapchat videos or phone records from members of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, the fraternity Hernandez was pledging to join. They said police were aware that some fraternity brothers may have instructed others to delete videos and messages that were incriminating.University police said they are aware of the autopsy results released Thursday and "will be evaluating the findings as part of the ongoing investigation." 1916
