Michigan State Police say they have a trooper who has been hit by cars 11 separate times while on the job.That trooper, who works out of the Oak Park station, has been with the department for 25 years and is still patrolling today knowing every traffic stop is putting his life on the line."He's been hit in his patrol car and also struck standing on the side of the road,” said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw.Shaw admits that it might be a record, but said he doesn't know any officer who hasn't been hit by a another car while on the job.“I’ve been hit, the troopers standing behind me have all been hit. It’s not ‘if’ it’s a ‘when’.”He said traffic crashes are the number one cause of death for law enforcement patrol officers.Today first responders from across south east Michigan met to highlight the state's Move Over Law."It's a very simple law to go by," he said. "If you can move over, move over. If you can't then slow down and get by, keep your eyes on the road, don’t stare and gawk and see.”It's a campaign that includes all first responders, police, fire fighters, ambulances and any tow truck drivers assisting someone on the side of the road.Just last week a Michigan State Trooper's car was hit, as it was parked on the side of I-96 near Fullerton. The trooper was out of the car investigating another crash.Police officers and fire fighters pulled over to help a crash only to be hit themselves.Many become injured, some even die.Michigan State Police say five troopers have died from 1941 to 2000 after being hit by a driver that did not move over."We just want to remind people that there are actually families involved. Michigan's tallest man has died. Michael D. Lanier, 48, of Troy, died Wednesday, April 25 at Beaumont Hospital. He was 7 feet 7 inches tall.Lanier and his twin brother, Jim, were in the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest identical twins in the world. Michael is survived by his wife Janet “Battani” Lanier of Troy and her children Christopher Campbell of Jackson & Kathryn Campbell of Troy, siblings: Jennifer (Michael) Toomajian of Troy, James (Michele) Lanier of Greenwood, Indiana, Gary (Traci) Lanier of Plymouth, MI., Also survived by nieces & nephews: Hunter, Jared, & Jessica Toomajian, Daniel & Sarah Lanier, and Kaden, Katherine, & Karl Lanier. No details have been released on the cause of death. 759

McDonald’s plans to accelerate “some restaurant closings previously planned for future years” because of the pandemic, resulting in 200 closures in the U.S. in 2020.More than half of the closures are restaurants in Walmart store locations, according to the company. They did not detail which stores would be closing.The announcement came during an earnings call with investors and reporters Tuesday, in which McDonald’s talked about their up-and-down second quarter of the year. They said 96% of its 39,000 restaurants worldwide are now open, compared to 75% at the start of the second quarter in April.But the recovery is uneven. Improvement has slowed in China, but same-store sales are improving in the U.S. McDonald’s net income fell 68% to 4 million during the second quarter.McDonald’s has about 14,000 restaurants in the U.S. and on the earnings call said they will have a gain of 350 net new restaurants this year as construction gets started in parts of the country.McDonald’s is not alone in closing restaurants during the pandemic. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A grand jury announced Wednesday that none of the three officers involved in the police killing of Breonna Taylor will be indicted on homicide charges, including murder or manslaughter.Instead, one of the officers, Brett Hankison, is being charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for firing into the apartments of Taylor's neighbors. The class D felony is punishable of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to ,000. Hankison's bail is set at ,000 cash bond.Kentucky law says, “a person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person.”The other two officers involved in the shooting, Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, are not facing charges.During a press conference, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said the state could not pursue charges against Mattingly and Cosgrove, because their use of force was “justified to protect themselves” after being fired upon by Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker.“This justification bars us from pursuing criminal charges in Miss Breonna Taylor’s death,” said Cameron.Cameron also said a witness corroborated officers' claims that they announced themselves prior to entering Taylor's apartment, where they shot and killed the 26-year-old EMT. Cameron said it was "difficult" to inform Taylor's family about the grand jury's decision. "It's been a difficult day. It's a very difficult day for Louisville, the entire commonwealth and the whole country," said Cameron.Cameron expressed his condolences to Taylor's family.“Every day this family wakes up to the realization that someone they loved is no longer with them," he said. "There’s nothing I can offer today to take away the grief and heartache this family is experiencing as a result of losing a child, a niece, a sister and a friend.”With protests expected following the charging decision, Cameron is urging demonstrators to remain peaceful in the coming days.
