SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man died in a hospital Sunday of injuries he suffered in a collision with a boat while he rode a Jet Ski in Mission Bay, authorities said.The collision happened at 6:30 p.m. Saturday near the north end of Ski Beach when a man in his 20s from out of state was riding on a Jet Ski with another family member, according to the San Diego Police Department.A boat collided with the Jet Ski and the injured man was taken back to shore by the family member, where CPR was performed and a pulse was eventually detected, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died Sunday.Police questioned the driver of the boat, which was taken as evidence. The investigation of the collision is ongoing. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - More than a dozen animal shelters, rescues and sanctuaries across San Diego County Saturday will encourage people to adopt a pet during the fifth annual Clear the Shelters day.Clear the Shelters is a nationwide animal adoption event intended to help as many shelter animals as possible find a forever home. Since the event began in 2015, more than 300,000 pets have been adopted during Clear the Shelters events.The San Diego Humane Society's San Diego, Escondido and Oceanside campuses and the county of San Diego's Department of Animal Services shelters in Bonita and Carlsbad will participate in the event and waive adoption fees for all animals adopted throughout the day.At the county's shelters and the humane society, animals available for adoption have been spayed or neutered, microchipped and brought up to date on their vaccinations, if necessary. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public today for information about an Egyptian man who was found dead under potentially suspicious circumstances off the coast of Mission Beach.The body of 37-year-old Haitham "Max" Elshayeb was floating about two and a half miles from shore when a fisherman on a boat spotted it shortly before 10:30 a.m. Oct. 10, San Diego police said.The body, dressed only in surfer-style shorts, didn't show any obvious signs of traumatic injuries, Lt. Anthony Dupree said. A possibly suspicious circumstance, however, was a chain wrapped around the dead man's waist, though it might have been used simply as a belt or style accessory, the lieutenant said.Homicide detectives were called in to investigate the fatality "out of an abundance of caution," and the death has been classified as suspicious, Dupree said.
