THORNTON, Colo. -- Police in Colorado say two people died and a third was transported to the hospital after a shooting at a Walmart Wednesday night. The third victim died of her injuries at the hospital. The two suspects believed to be involved in the shooting are still at large, according to law enforcement. Police were called to the store around 6 p.m., according to KGTV sister station KMGH. TORONTO, Canada (KGTV) -- Canadian law enforcement officials have released disturbing surveillance footage showing a masked suspect posing as a delivery man firing a crossbow into a woman.The video, which was captured Nov. 7, 2018 but released this week, shows the suspect approaching the 44-year-old victim's porch holding a large cardboard box. The suspect rings the doorbell, exchanges words with the victim, then fires an arrow into her chest, leaving her with life-threatening injuries. The suspect then fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle parked nearby, police said."After a brief conversation, the suspect shot the victim with an arrow using a crossbow that was concealed inside of the box," Peel Regional Police said.Investigators said the attack was premeditated, targeted, and isolated "based on the conversation that occurred between the victim and the suspect." No further details about the conversation were disclosed.Police said the suspect used an arrow "designed to hunt large game such as moose and deer and inflict the maximum amount of damage possible."Officers are seeking the public's help identifying the suspect in the attempted murder case. This election season, Demetrius Short is hustling to get his people to the polls.“We have the wonderful opportunity as African American men to be here today,” Short said to a group of young African American voters outside a polling site in Nashville, Tennessee. “The next John Lewis might be right here.”Short is the founder and CEO of the Transformation Life Center and Steps of Success 5K, nonprofits mentoring youth living in underserved communities. Now, Short and his team are using physical fitness to inspire political change by leading young Black men on runs and talking about becoming better people afterwards.“Going out, taking your niece and nephew that may not have a father, being that father or mother example to them and just be the change you want to see,” Short said.During this presidential election, Short is reaching out to college students from Fisk University, a private historically Black college in Nashville.“We’re here to come out here and inspire change in our community and inspire young people to really vote,” said Myles Harris, a recent Fisk University graduate.Harris says he is motivated to get more members of African American communities to have their voices heard and their votes counted.“A lot of people don’t vote because they don’t see the point, they don’t understand why it’s so important,” he said.Many members in the local African American community do understand the importance of this election and are calling this political movement inspiring.“Us Black folks are still fighting. This is supposed to be the first week of class for many Washington state schools. But exactly when students in some districts will go to class remains a mystery.Teacher strikes in two districts have already forced the cancellation of classes on their first day of school Tuesday.Evergreen Public Schools are closed because no deal has been reached between the school district and the Evergreen Education Association over salaries.Negotiations are ongoing, and the school district said it will give parents at least 24 hours' notice before classes will begin.The Washougal School District also missed its first day of school Tuesday due to a strike by the Washougal Association of Educators.School district representatives met with union members and mediators Monday to try to reach an agreement on teacher salary increases."The district and the association have worked hard to reach an understanding but, unfortunately, we were not able to come to an agreement," district Superintendent Mary Templeton said.Four other state school districts, which are scheduled to start classes Wednesday, could have those plans derailed by strikes over salaries and benefits.Vancouver Public Schools, Longview Public Schools, Battle Ground Public Schools and the Hockinson School District all announced that negotiations are continuing with teachers and mediators.The Hockinson School District said it's hoping to start classes on time but is asking parents to have backup plans for their children, just in case. 1515
