HAIKOU, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The bodies of two people were retrieved in south China's island province of Hainan on Monday, bringing the death toll from the tropical storm Goni to five, local officials said.     The fourth was a fisherman who was killed when the fishing boat "Qiongdanzhou 00301" was wrecked at the Yangpu Port, while the fifth one, a fisherwoman, died after "Qiongdanzhou 52153" sank near Danzhou City, officials said.     Another two fishermen on "Qiongdanzhou 00301" and "Qiongdanzhou 00878", as well as four crew members on a Cambodian vessel are still missing, said an official with the Hainan marine search and rescue center.     The difficulty of rescue has increased as the provincial meteorologic center warned of continuous thunderstorms in northwestern Hainan in the following 24 hours, he said.     More than 1.6 million people in Hainan Province were affected by Goni, which forced local authorities to relocate 92,000, officials said.     It toppled more than 575 houses and damaged 2,311, as well as inundated 68,000 hectares of cropland, he said.     Goni landed in Hainan Wednesday and left China at 5 p.m. Sunday.

HAIKOU, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have recovered the bodies of three victims in a boat capsizing incident after tropical storm Parma landed in south China's Hainan Province Monday.     Strong winds and waves triggered by Parma caused a fishing boat to capsize and sink off the coast of Wanning City Monday morning, and all nine fishermen aboard the vessel fell into water, a spokesman with the Hainan Provincial Emergency Response Office said.     By 5 p.m., one body had been retrieved and five people had been rescued. At about 8 p.m., the bodies of two more victims were found, according to the maritime bureau of Hainan. A rider falls to the ground in the heavy winds and rains in Qionghai City, south China's island Province of Hainan, Oct. 12, 2009Rescuers were still searching for one person that remained missing, the spokesman said.     Parma made a landfall in Wanning's Longgun Township at 9:50 a.m. Monday, packing winds of up to 54 km per hour, according to the Hainan Provincial Observatory.     The storm is moving northwestward at a speed of 15 km per hour.     The tropical storm brought strong winds and rains to most parts of the province, and local authorities have warned residents against flash floods, landslides and other disasters.     Price hikes of vegetable and seafood have been reported in markets in the provincial capital of Haikou, as suspension of navigation has led to commodity shortages.     In addition to Hainan, Parma brought winds and rains to coastal areas of Guangdong, Fujian and Taiwan provinces.     But the rains in parts of Guangdong have not eased a drought in the province, local authorities said. Meanwhile, the city began to establish its industry system and high-tech in recent years in order to reach a comprehensive development. BEIJING, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The People's Liberation Army (PLA) should study and practice the Scientific Outlook on Development in a practical way, Chinese President Hu Jintao said in an written instruction to the PLA recently.     Hu, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the instruction as PLA held a meeting here from Wednesday to Friday on its third stage of in-depth study and practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development.     It should be based on the grassroots situation and provide specific guidance; it should give prominence to practice and focus on solving real problems, the instruction said.     It should obtain actual effects and ensure all tasks of the army be completed, the instruction said.     CMC vice-chairmen Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihong and other senior military officials attended the meeting.

Chinese President Hu Jintao (5th L front) and other top leaders watch a large-scale musical epic "Road to Revival" recounting the country's road from the Opium War in 1840 to 2009, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Sept. 28, 2009, together with people from all walks of life in Beijing. All members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and former President Jiang Zemin watched the performance, in dedication to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China Dancers and singers recounted important episodes in modern and contemporary Chinese history.     The musical highlighted the tremendous changes that have taken place since the founding of the PRC under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.     All members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and former President Jiang Zemin watched the performance.
