(KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in Chula Vista, police announced Tuesday.On May 15, Chula Vista police were called to the 200 block of G Street in response to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon officers’ arrival, Fredrick Wood was found on the ground with gunshot wounds.Wood was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.Through their investigation, police learned Wood was “shot inside a nearby residence belonging to Enrique Delgado. The victim then ran into the street after being shot, where he collapsed.”Police said Delgado was nowhere to be found.According to police, investigators tracked down Delgado on June 11 at a motorhome in San Diego. Police said Delgado “admitted to shooting Mr. Wood during a dispute, refused to surrender and stated he was armed with a firearm.”A SWAT team was called to the scene as Delgado barricaded himself in the motorhome. He eventually surrendered without incident.Police reported “several firearms and a large quantity of narcotics were also located inside Delgado’s motorhome at the time of arrest.”Delgado was booked into jail and faces charges of murder, possession of narcotics for sale, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, illegal possession of an assault weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm and having a concealed weapon in a vehicle. 1468

CINCINNATI -- Police officers trying to arrest a man ended up fatally shooting him and wounding one of their own after the man struggled and drew a realistic pellet gun.Police were serving a robbery warrant for 20-year-old James Clay in an apartment in Cincinnati at about 3:40 p.m. Friday, according to Police Chief Eliot Isaac.The officers knocked, but there was no response. (KGTV) -- Police arrested a man on suspicion of breaking into a Wells Fargo bank in Chula Vista early Thursday morning.Bank security personnel contacted Chula Vista police at around 2 a.m. after they saw a man break the front window at the branch on 1232 Broadway and enter the business.According to police, security cameras showed the man “going through the drawers behind the counters.”Police surrounded the bank as some officers entered the business. Officers arrested the man, later identified as 25-year-old Rene Torres, without incident.Police said officers at the scene determined Torres “pried open most of the cash drawers but was unable to access the vault or currency storage areas. He did cause a lot of damage to the interior of the building.”ABC 10News learned officers discovered several rolls of coins in the suspect’s backpack that police presumed to be from the bank.Torres was arrested on suspicion of burglary and booked at CVPD headquarters. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- With cases of coronavirus continuing to spike in the United States, Southwestern College announced Tuesday that the campus will be conducting courses online for about a week as a precautionary measure.Students and campus staff are moving all in-person classes to online or distributed instruction from March 16 through the 20.The decision joins numerous other institutions throughout the country to help suppress the spread of the virus.List: Major universities suspending in-person classes amid coronavirus fears"This is a rapidly changing situation and we appreciate everyone’s patience as college leadership works to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for our students, employees and community," said SWC President Kindred Murillo said.They are also canceling "large public events at all our campuses."
