In a speech from the Senate floor Thursday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) slammed the House's adoption of articles of impeachment as a "predetermined end" to a "partisan crusade," but did not give any specifics about the impending trial to be held in the Senate.McConnell's statement comes hours after the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump in a vote that was largely along party lines. All but two Democrats voted in favor of the articles; no Republicans voted in favor.McConnell warned the impeachment risked "deeply damaging" institutions in the United States and claimed it could open the door for more partisan impeachments in the future."If the Senate blesses this historically low bar (of impeachment), we will invite the impeachment of every future president," McConnell said.Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York), responded shortly thereafter, claiming McConnell failed to offer a defense for President Trump's actions in McConnell's 30-minute speech.Schumer also slammed Trump's decision to not participate in impeachment proceedings, and said Democrats would welcome the Trump administration to offer their own defense."Why is (McConnell) so afraid of relevant witnesses and documents?" Scumer said. "...can none of the president's men come defend him under oath?"McConnell also claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was "afraid" to send the articles of impeachment over to the Senate for a trial. Pelosi said Wednesday night that the House would delay sending the articles to the Senate until she could get assurances that the Senate would hold a fair trial.Last week, McConnell told news outlets that he is openly conferring with White House counsel on defenses for Trump. The comments sparked a call among Democrat lawmakers for McConnell to recuse himself during the Senate trial. 1866

In an emotional scene that played out on CNN Sunday evening, Chief Medaria Arradondo of the Minneapolis Police told George Floyd’s family that all four officers involved in Floyd’s death are “complicit” in his death. While members of Floyd’s family listened in live, the family wanted to know what should be done with the officers who watched as Derek Chauvin held a knee to Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes. Moments after Floyd's arrest, Floyd was pronounced dead at a Minneapolis hospital. Standing among those paying tribute to Floyd in Minneapolis Sunday evening, Arradondo removed his hat as he addressed the Floyd family directly for the first time since last week’s tragedy. Chauvin was charged with murder earlier this week. "To the Floyd family: being silent or not intervening to me you're complicit. So I don't see a level of distinction any different,” Arradondo said. “So obviously the charging and those decisions will have to come through our County Attorney's office. Certainly the FBI is investigating that. But to the Floyd family, I want you to know that my decision to fire all four officers was not based on some sort of hierarchy. Mr. Floyd died in our hands.”Arradondo later added, "Silence and inaction, you're complicit. You're complicit. If there were one solitary voice, it would have intervened and acted -- that's what I would have hoped. Unfortunately, that did not occur."The moment can be watched below. 1451

It's become a solemn and sacred ritual in the United States each September 11 -- pausing for part of the day to remember the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks. While the attacks happened at the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan, the Pentagon across the Potomac River from Washington and a lonely field outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the entire nation -- and indeed the world -- absorbed the horror of airliners being turned into weapons.Demonstrating the enduring legacy of that day in 2001, here are some of the places holding observances around the United States on the 18th anniversary of 9/11.Watch live as President Donald Trump participates in a ceremony at the Pentagon.National September 11 Memorial & MuseumThe most shocking images and loss of life came at the World Trade Center complex -- and the site became holy ground for many Americans. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum opened in 2014 in the same location and today is the main national gathering site documenting the events of 9/11.Starting at 8:40 a.m. ET Wednesday, the memorial and museum will host its 1103
