WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two different doses of a thyroid medication are being recalled because they're not potent enough.The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that Acella Pharmaceuticals is voluntarily recalling one lot of 15-milligram and one lot of 120-milligram NP Thyroid?, Thyroid Tablets.The products may have as low as 87% of the labeled amount of levothyroxine, which is used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), according to the FDA.The company’s risk statement says patients being treated for hypothyroidism who receive sub potent NP Thyroid may experience symptoms of hypothyroidism, including fatigue, increased sensitivity to cold, constipation, dry skin, puffy face, hair loss, slow heart rate, depression, swelling of the thyroid gland and/or unexplained weight gain or difficulty losing weight.“There is reasonable risk of serious injury in newborn infants or pregnant women with hypothyroidism including early miscarriage, fetal hyperthyroidism, and/or impairments to fetal neural and skeletal development,” wrote Acella. “In elderly patients and patients with underlying cardiac disease toxic cardiac manifestations of hyperthyroidism may occur, such as cardiac pain, palpitations or cardiac arrhythmia.”So far, Acella says it has received four reports of "adverse events" for these lot numbers, possibly related to the recall.The products subject to recall are packed in 100-count bottles. Their lot numbers are M327E19-1 and M328F19-3. WASHINTON, D.C. -- Senate Democrats are unveiling a plan to extend additional unemployment benefits.This is for the extra 0 every week, on top of what states already offer for unemployment.The new proposal would decrease the added benefit as the unemployment rate drops.The Economic Policy Institute supports that plan, saying the additional benefit should stay in place as long as needed.“People are really, really uncertain about how this is going to unfold over the coming months, so putting some arbitrary end date on any provisions related to supporting the economy and the people in it during this crisis makes no sense,” said Heidi Shierholz, Senior Economist and Director of Policy at the Economic Policy Institute.The institute tells us the expansion makes a huge difference, not just for the individual, but for all of us. It estimates if it cuts off at the end of July, that could cost the U.S. 5 million jobs over the next year. That's because less spending creates a further drag on the economy.However, Republicans say the expanded benefit gives people a reason to not go back to work.Some studies have found the economy could actually be worse off if people don't get working again.The American Enterprise Institute agrees, saying the move was just meant to get through the initial lockdown.“This is becoming less of a, the pandemic caused us to initiate lockdowns and people are at home, and now it's just we have a large number of unemployed people, what should we do to assist them, and 0 addition to unemployment checks in a bad economy is a really unprecedented step,” said Matt Weidinger with the American Enterprise Institute.The group says extending the benefits could set that precedent for Congress to act similarly for any future recessions. 1781

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Polls are beginning to close in parts of the U.S. and some Election Day results are coming in.The first states to close at least a portion of their polls are Indiana and Kentucky, at 6 p.m. ET. Those races won’t tell us much, because they’re largely Republican strongholds.Some of the first key states to close their polls are Georgia and Florida at 7 p.m. ET. Not all counties in the Sunshine State will close then, but a good chunk will start reporting around that time. Georgia is a swing state this year, so keep your eyes on the suburbs of Atlanta.At 7:30 p.m. ET, North Carolina and Ohio will close their polls. Ohio is expected to report results right away and a projection in the state is possible on election night. As for North Carolina, the state has ordered some polling locations to stay open longer than 7:30, so don’t expect results from there until after 8 p.m. at least.At 8 p.m. ET, polls will close in Texas, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Although, it’s very unlikely, we will know the results from the last two. State laws prohibit early processing of ballots.At 9 p.m. ET, Arizona, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska will close polls. Remember, former Vice President Joe Biden could win an electoral college vote in Nebraska, because the state hands out votes based on individual congressional district results.As far as key counties, keep an eye on Cuyahoga County, where Cleveland is. In 2016, 49,000 fewer votes were cast for Hillary Clinton than for Barack Obama in 2012. If turnout is high there, Ohio could be competitive tonight. It’s the same story in Wayne County, Michigan, where Detroit is, where there were over 76,000 fewer votes in 2016. If that county breaks voting records, it could be a good night for Democrats. It’s a similar story tonight in Milwaukee County.Again, the key tonight will be patience. Some states will take a while to count votes this election night. Election officials from coast to coast are telling their workers not to worry about being fast, but to worry about being right.The Senate racesAs the first presidential results gradually come in, don’t forget to keep an eye on the U.S. Senate results as well. After all, whoever wins the presidency will need Congress to help pass their agenda.As a reminder, currently there are 53 Republican senators and 47 Democratic senators. There is a total of 35 Senate races this year. Republicans think they can pick a seat up in Alabama, while Democrats think they are in good position to pick up Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina and Maine.Remember, the Senate confirms judges, helps pass bills and confirms cabinet positions.The presidential raceAs for the race for the White House, one state to keep an eye on is Wisconsin, with 10 electoral college votes.
