(KGTV) — A 12-year-old who got a hold of a firearm accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday.Escondido Police say the boy was at his home in the unincorporated area of Escondido just before 6 p.m. when he found a revolver. He started handling the firearm and a single round fired, striking him in the leg.The boy was taken to a nearby hospital with a non-life threatening injury. Some events have gone virtual while others are offering them "to go.""Tours just stopped, a hard stop around March 14. My first though was, which is crazy, is that it wasn't even me but what are my restaurants going to do because without them, there is no food tour," says Cristina McCarter, the owner of City Tasting Tours in Memphis, Tennessee.When the COVID-19 pandemic prompted shelter-in-place restrictions this spring, she made her business virtual, offering food delivery from local restaurants that were on her tasting tour. But when restaurants opened back up, she had to think of a new way to keep her business alive."I had to think of something else. So, I thought about, okay, maybe I could do a box and we can deliver some of the food items to people around town," says McCarter.That's when her friend, Lisa Brown, came in to help co-own and invest in their new business idea, City Tasting Box."We really just started to talk instantly about who are the vendors that we want to work with, who represents Memphis and we really just started to pull it off together. What is the experience we want it to be for the consumer?" says Lisa Brown.Brown and McCarter both wanted to create a product that not only showed off the best of Memphis but benefited local restaurants and food artisans. They've now launched two boxes.The first is the "Official Memphis Travel Box" and the second is the "Support Local Box." As for what's in the box? McCarter says, "There's Makeda's cookies in there and we always say you cannot visit Memphis and not have Makeda's cookies. That means you didn't do Memphis right if you didn't get your barbecue and your hot wings."Giving locals and the entire country a taste of town in a convenient "to go" box is a concept shared by others around the country who've had to shut down or adjust their business during the pandemic.At Seattle's Pike Place Market, organizers offer the Pike Box, which includes farmer's market produce delivered to your door without having to visit the market in person. Keeping safe, physical distances but still supporting local businesses, McCarter and Brown said the pandemic and their new business has taught them that they're stronger together, especially when showing off their Memphis pride."We want to push Memphis out to the whole nation and all of the good parts of what makes us who we are," says Brown.Already, the boxes are gaining traction.“It’s been going great. [We've had] really good response so far, mostly from out-of-towners,” McCarter said. “We've gotten a lot of messages from people saying, 'Oh this is such a great idea, we miss Memphis and didn't get a chance to come this year' or, 'We love Memphis and our daughter lives there.'"The two hope to expand their business later this year with specialty Christmas-themed boxes and food boxes featuring foods from other major cities, as well. 3001

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt's 24-hour security in Washington extends to at least some of his personal trips, according to a letter Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse sent to the department's inspector general and shared with CNN.The letter, written based on information that Whitehouse says he confidentially obtained from an unnamed source, raises new questions about the cost of Pruitt's unprecedented EPA-funded security, and alleges that Pruitt has used his security detail while on non-official business, including trips home to Tulsa, Oklahoma, a family vacation to Disneyland and the Rose Bowl game.Whitehouse, D-Rhode Island, says the new details should be added to the inspector general's ongoing investigation into Pruitt's travel expenses and use of a 24/7 security detail. The documents, he wrote, raise concern "significant agency resources are being devoted to administrator Pruitt's 'round-the-clock security, even when he is traveling on non-official business."Whitehouse adds, "While I consider matters of personal security to be extremely serious, personal security should never be used as a pretext to obtain special treatment."The letter alleges that six weekly schedules and other explanatory documents that were provided to him show that Pruitt used between two and three dozen different agents during a six-week period.Asked about the letter, the EPA told CNN that "Administrator Pruitt follows the same security protocol whether he's in his personal or official capacity," but declined to further elaborate on those protocols.The EPA has said that Pruitt has faced unprecedented threats, including direct threats on his life, leading to equally unprecedented security measures.CNN reached out to the EPA's Office of Inspector General, which did not comment on the case.Pruitt has been under increased scrutiny for citing security as the reason he flew first class on the government's tab, racking up nearly 0,000 in travel costs. However, Pruitt did not turn over the waivers that are necessary to fly in an upgraded cabin.Whitehouse's letter asks the inspector general to see if Pruitt flies first class on non-official trips, and if so, whether the EPA pays for the security detail's flights, accommodations and per diems.Pruitt told CBS News recently: "There's a change coming" in the way he travels, "including flying coach," and in the way his staff will accommodate security threats.In October, CNN reported the EPA was beefing up Pruitt's 24/7 security, hiring a dozen more agents. At the time CNN calculated salaries alone for the full team would cost at least million per year, according to figures compiled from public documents. (AP) — Two U.S. Air Force airmen killed in a training jet crash at Vance Air Force Base in northwestern Oklahoma have been identified as an instructor and a student pilot.The base said Friday that 47-year-old instructor pilot Lt. Col. John “Matt” Kincade and 23-year-old student pilot Lt.
