SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While fall-like temperatures lingered around San Diego County for a few days, a heatwave is on the way.Above-average temperatures are expected throughout the week with a heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Friday.With many people still working and learning from home, you may have noticed higher energy usage on your electricity bill.“We’re dealing with some unusual and extreme situations this year given the COVID-19 pandemic and also extreme temperatures,” said Jessica Packard, communications manager for San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE). “Look at conserving energy when you can, I know that’s easier said than done.”She said the key to bringing down that SDG&E bill is to avoid energy usage between 4 and 9 p.m.This time spent working from home can also come in handy.“If you are home working, try to maybe run the dishwasher during your lunch hour when you normally wouldn’t because you’d be in the office,” she said.To help during this pandemic, SDG&E has suspended service disconnections for those who can’t afford to pay their utility bill. SDG&E is also offering flexible payment plans.Based on annual household income, people who qualify can also sign up for state and federal programs to get discounts on monthly energy bills.“Look at some of our customer programs and assistance options if you’re really struggling and want us to cater maybe something to help you get through this difficult time,” said Packard.The hot and dry conditions across the county also cause fire concerns to grow. Firefighting agencies are asking everyone to remain cautious and avoid doing anything that can spark a fire.Right now, Packard said there is no need for Public Safety Power Shutoffs, but SDG&E meteorologists track and monitor the weather conditions daily in case there is a change.“At SDG&E, we really don’t want to turn off your power,” she said. “We try to give at least 48 hours’ notice in advance. It has nothing to do with high usage, but more on the high fire threat districts that say Santa Ana winds are coming through, we need to protect your house and the powerlines, should Santa Ana winds impact powerlines.” 2195

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two men wearing masks and gloves robbed a City Heights jewelry store Friday.One of the men jumped a display counter and confronted an employee of the Eclipse Jewelry Store at 4213 University Ave. just east of Interstate 15, police said.One man took jewelry from display trays and put it in a bag while the second man pointed a gun at the employee.The owner told 10News the men got away with about ,000 worth of mostly gold chains. He also said he thought perhaps the men had been in the store before since they seemed to know exactly what they wanted. Both men ran off and were last seen getting into a silver colored late model Toyota or Honda heading east.No one was injured in the robbery. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people escaped uninjured after a sailboat crashed into an Ocean Beach jetty, before the vessel itself was crushed by high surf.The 25-foot long boat collided into the North Channel jetty in Ocean Beach with the two individuals on board, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Monica Mu?oz. San Diego Lifeguards used a personal water craft to reach the vessel and safely pull the two individuals after they were forced to jump from the boat. The boat was attempting to leave the jetty area when a large wave forced them to pull a U-turn. SAN DIEGO FORECAST: Wednesday's rains to strengthen heading into ThursdayWind caught the sails and instead sent the vessel back into the jetty, according to witnesses at the scene.Those two people were uninjured in the wreck though the sailboat was crushed by high surf and sunk within the channel's entrance, according to Mu?oz.The boat's owner is now responsible for making arrangements to tow the boat from the channel.RELATED: Where to get free sandbags to protect your home from floodingA storm system forecasted for San Diego County has brought high sets to local beaches Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Tuesday morning a human chain formed outside of Rady Children’s Hospital to mark the start of Child Abuse Prevention Month.Hand in hand, dressed in blue, child health and welfare experts, law enforcement agencies, community members and leaders banded together to show support.“This is a circle of support for children,” said Dr. Suzanne Starling, medical director of the Chadwick Center. “We are holding hands to show we are encircling children with all the hope and all the services we can provide for them.”The human chain formed around the Hospital’s iconic Inspiration Fountain.“Child abuse is a very large problem, thousands and thousands of children in the United States are abused every day,” said Starling.She said abused children not only suffer physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.Starling said she hopes San Diegans can stand up for children and keep child abuse prevention in mind, even after April.If you suspect a child is being abused, you can report it by calling this 24-hour hotline 1-800-344–6000 or click here for more resources. 1089
