WASHINGTON (AP) — The GOP push against Facebook and Twitter has accelerated after Republican senators threatened the CEOs of the social media companies with subpoenas to force them to address accusations of censorship in the closing weeks of the presidential campaign. With Democrats boycotting the hearing, the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee voted to authorize the legal orders if Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey don't agree to testify voluntarily. The committee wants to hear from the executives about what the subpoena document says is “the suppression and/or censorship" of recent New York Post articles about Democratic president nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter. He said it will be called the “1776 Commission,” named after the year the United States was founded.“It will encourage our educators to teach our children about the miracle of American history and make plans to honor the 250th anniversary of our founding,” said Trump during a speech at the National Archive Museum on Constitution Day.Trump also announced that the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant to support the development of pro-American curriculum that he says celebrates the truth about the nation’s history.“The only path to national unity is through our shared identity as Americans,” said Trump. “That is why it is so urgent that we restore patriotic education to our schools.”During his speech, Trump took aim, again, at The 1619 Project, an initiative developed by The New York Times Magazine in 2019. The project “aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.”Trump claims The 1619 Project distorts American History and he blames Democrats.“The left has warped, distorted and defiled the American story with deceptions, falsehoods and lies. WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — A Pasco County photographer recruited her friends for a creative Halloween photoshoot involving pizza and pumpkins.Jennifer Sapountsis said the COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful for everyone."Trick-or-treating has changed a lot and people can't do as much stuff, so why not just try to bring smiles to people's faces and have fun with it," said Sapountsis.She asked her friends, Chris and Sarah Weed, to carve two pumpkins. The three then went to The Edison, a venue in Dade City.The couple was photographed wearing pumpkins on their head. They also ate some pizza."I feel like pizza and beer is an iconic thing for couples when they're chill. What do you want to do on a date night? Let's order some pizza, some beer, chill out," she said.The couple also dressed as ghosts and danced around. Sapountsis shared the photos on her Facebook page, Jennifer Alyssa Photography."I've gotten a lot of responses. I've seen other people try to do the same thing. She also said her friend's husband was not crazy about the idea until he saw the finished product."He loves his wife, so he was okay doing it and going that extra step...there was so much laughter, so much fun.
