SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nestled off of Camino Del Rio West in the Midway District, the Body Shop sits between a Navis Pack and Ship site and the "Les Girls" adult entertainment club on Riley Street. The Body Shop, a strip club at 3776 Riley Street, welcomed customers for five decades before it closed last December. This week, Rock Church announced they'll be moving in. Rock Church has five campuses across San Diego County. They have a school and now, they have plans for the property in the Midway District. They told 10News the purchase is about more than repurposing a strip club - it's about transforming the neighborhood. "We thought it was a great idea because we know the pain that goes on in that building," said Miles McPherson, pastor at Rock Church. "Not just the women, but the men who go there and their families.”The church’s main campus on Rosecrans is roughly a mile and a half away from the new property. "We don’t know what we're going to do with the building, we just know what it won’t be used for," McPherson said. For decades, parents have explained to their kids why there's a huge sign that says 'nude girls' in their neighborhood, he said. Soon, it won't be necessary."It would be nice to put 'Rock Church' on top of that billboard, but that's another step," he said. "We’ll get to that. But you know the people in that community have been looking at that building for 50 years, and hopefully we can put something more positive in that building.”In addition to taking over the building, McPherson said the church plans to do outreach in the community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New advertisements against Measure B riled up supporters, who spoke out against the massive development Friday.The commercial states, "Measure B the Newland Sierra project, is a luxury development," something supporters vehemently deny."What I think is disingenuous is making people feel fearful of what can happen in this development," supporter Melinda Vasquez said.Friday, dozens gathered in Kearny Mesa to advocate for Newland Sierra's development project. She is a first generation American (her parents moved from Mexico) and a teacher. She teaches first- and second-graders, and comes home to a 12-month-old."Even though she's a toddler we're going to be expanding soon in the future and we're going to need that space, that affordable space to grow our family," Lopez said she is always budget conscious for her family.The county's existing general plan calls for 99 homes and up to 2,000,000 square feet of commercial property with open space. They said the development will have a spread of apartments for seniors and low low income, affordable town-homes, and individual homes. The highest bracket in the chart showed 1,570 or more. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Wednesday arrested a woman they say vandalized a church Monday afternoon. Kelly Duggan, 26, was arrested after police say she caused more than ,000 worth of damage to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.10News Reporter Bree Steffen Reach out Duggan, who agreed to a jailhouse interview. Duggan told us that she's in an emotional state, heartbroken over her mother's death. "I don't know what's going on anymore, and that's what's making me mad," she said. "I'll still pay for it, that's fine."According to authorities, Duggan threw a wooden kneeler at a Plexiglas window protecting a religious shrine, breaking both the kneeler and the glass.Duggan also destroyed several flower vases decorating the shrine before leaving the church, police say. She was arrested for felony vandalism after being spotted in Barrio Logan.Duggan said she didn't vandalize the church out of disrespect or hate for the faith. The church told 10News they caught Duggan's action on their surveillance cameras but didn't share the video because they worried that people who saw might harm her. Duggan had this message for the church: "Thank you for forgiving me, you know, out of the kindness of your heart."  1265

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One person was shot in San Diego's Shelltown neighborhood Sunday afternoon, San Diego Police confirm.According to San Diego Police, the shooting happened just after noon at the La Michoacana grocery store located at 1702 Vesta Street. The suspect, a man in his 20s, pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the cash register.The owner, a 40-year-old man, opened the register and gave the man money, police said. The suspect went to a second cash register and demanded money. The employee opened the second register and gave the suspect money.As the suspect was turning to leave, the owner pulled out a handgun. The suspect turned to the owner and the owner shot the suspect twice, hitting him in the abdomen and in the wrist, police say.The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, but police said his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. 879
