ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- An 86-year-old man was hit and killed in the parking lot of an Alpine shopping center Thursday evening, according to authorities. Police say a truck hit the man on the 1200 block of Alpine Boulevard around 4:12 p.m. Thursday. Investigators say the driver of the truck didn’t see the man and backed over him outside a Chase Bank.A worker at a nearby Carls Jr. said the man was stuck under the truck following the accident. Authorities said the incident was a tragic accident and the driver won't face any charges.   572

ABSARD, Iran (AP) — State television says an Iranian scientist was killed in a targeted attack killed in Absard, a small city just east of the capital, Tehran. State TV says the attack on the scientist, named Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, saw gunmen use explosives and machine gun fire. He was attacked by "armed terrorist elements," according to state TV, and died at a local hospital after first responders couldn't revive him.Israel has alleged the man led the Islamic Republic’s military nuclear program until its disbanding in the early 2000s.Iran’s foreign minister is alleging the killing of Fakhrizadeh has “serious indications” of an Israeli role. Mohammad Javad Zarif made the statement Friday on Twitter.“Terrorists murdered an eminent Iranian scientist today. This cowardice—with serious indications of Israeli role—shows desperate warmongering of perpetrators,” Zarif wrote. A woman on her way to Washington, D.C. for the Commitment March is thanking Delta Air Lines for how they handled a tense situation with a white passenger. Demetria Poe posted on social media about her experience, and what passengers and crew members did next.Poe, who is Black, says she helped a white woman with her bag as the woman sat next to her on the plane. The woman swapped out her mask for one that said ‘Blue Lives Matter’ and sat back down next to Poe."That woman was trying to entice me into an argument because there was no need for her to flip that mask in my presence," Poe later told USA Today.According to Poe, after take-off, the woman said “I support blue lives because I support officers.”“I explained to her blue lives do not exist. The life of an officer exist but there is no such thing as a blue life and that statement is nothing but a rebuttal to the fact that BLM has been disregarded time after time after time,” Poe stated in her post. 972

A wave of construction will bring thousands of new apartments to downtown in the next few years. As those complexes start to open, they could bring relief to San Diego's housing crisis.This July, Park 12 will be the biggest to open, adding 718 units to the downtown area. The complex features three buildings, including a 37 story tower. Jerry Brand, with developer Greystar, says they wanted to go big in downtown because they see the area going through tremendous growth."Last year, San Diego had the largest employment growth in CA as a city. It was about 30,000 jobs, and that doesn't include the military," Brand says. "That creates housing demand, so we're seeing continued demand in the future."Other developers agree. According to Civic San Diego's 2017 Downtown Development Report, there were 1,014 new apartments completed in downtown in 2017. That's the third most since 2001. The report shows another 10,561 apartments either under construction, waiting to be built, or waiting for approval.Little Italy is one of the fastest growing areas. Projects like Luma, AV 8, Amo and Vici will add nearly 600 apartments to the area by the start of 2019."This is the most dynamic neighborhood in San Diego," says Rich Gustafson, the President of CityMark Development. They're putting the finishing touches on AV8, which will have 133 units."The demand is there," he says. "San Diego, in general, is slow in providing the housing supply, but we're doing the best that we can in Little Italy."It's not just apartments. Across Downtown, Civic San Diego says there are 1,213 condominiums either under construction or in the planning stages.
