Gavin Newsom said that the state's counties will be allowed to reopen hair salons and barber shops starting Tuesday.Newsom said that the 47 of 58 California counties that have been allowed to proceed through Stage 2, including San Diego County, can allow hair salons and barbershops to reopen with modifications under their plans."Those counties will begin to allow for those kinds of operations with meaning full modifications with the appropriate protective gear, particularly face coverings that are so essential in that environment, sanitation requirements, and the like," Newsom said. "This is something we've always had to do, so we're just intensifying it."After the announcement was made Tuesday, Kulch said there are still some questions about the guidelines. "I was wondering if we would be allowed to blow dry? I have not seen anything saying that we can't."Corinne Lam with Solatto Salon in Rancho Bernardo said they have spent thousands of dollars on PPE and safety equipment. They have already installed plexiglass between work stations and have a team training later this week on the new protocols."Anything we have to do, we are ready to do it. We're just so excited to be able to get back to making a living and getting our clients feeling better," Lam said. (KGTV) - An earthquake struck northern Mexico’s Baja California peninsula Monday, causing tremors felt in San Diego County.The 4.8 quake was located near Alberto Oviedo Mota at 12:18 p.m.The initial quake was followed by a 3.3 aftershock in the same area seven minutes later.Alberto Oviedo Mota is roughly 160 miles from San Diego. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the shaking in San Diego County was in the II-III or IV categories, meaning weak to light. The strongest shaking reported in the U.S. was in El Centro, which was considered moderate.There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries. 626

(KGTV) - George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, died on Friday at the age of 94, his family announced late Friday. A statement from his son, former President George W. Bush, reads: "Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died. George H. W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens."The elder Bush served as president from 1989 to 1993, overseeing the United States' efforts in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm. (KGTV) - A professor who made disparaging racial remarks toward a student may be returning to the San Diego State University campus after a forced hiatus.Professor Oscar Monge is scheduled to teach three writing classes in the American Indian Students department for Fall 2018, according to registration records.Monge was suspended in the beginning of 2018 after the California Attorney General's Office said he made discriminatory remarks toward a white student.He referred to white student as a "white savior," a black student as an "Uncle Tom," and another as a "Cherokee princess" according to a state investigator’s report.RELATED: Professor makes?"racial insensitive" remarksA spokesperson for SDSU provided a statement to 10News:“A faculty listing does not constitute a confirmed appointment. The university will begin to process temporary faculty appointments for Fall 2018 during the month of July."Crystal Sudano, one of the students who Monge made comments toward, said this is bad idea.“How much more abuse is San Diego State going to take?” said Sudano, “He’s got everybody by the gonads and everybody’s afraid to do anything.”Monge is currently on administrative leave and has not returned multiple requests by 10News for comment. 1297
