(KGTV) -- A former Marine has been sentenced to 17 years in state prison for driving drunk the wrong way on state Route 163 in Mission Valley, then crashing head-on into another car killing two UCSD medical students.Jason Riley King, 24, was convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.According to testimony throughout the trial, several people told King that he was too drunk to drive, but he got behind the wheel anyway, driving the wrong way on state Route 163 and crashing into the Prius.The 2015 crash killed 23-year-old Madison Cornwell and 24-year-old Anne Li Baldock.  Three classmates also riding in the Prius were seriously injured.The crash inspired a new law in the state of California that will require all bartenders and servers to take a class on how to spot someone who’s had too much to drink.Following the crash, classmates of the victims worked with Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego) on assembly bill 1221, also know as the Responsible Beverage Service Training Program Act of 2017.The law was approved by Governor Jerry Brown on October 15, 2017 and goes into effect July 1, 2021. 1164

John McCain during a private morning memorial service in Phoenix, Ariz.A black hearse pulled up to Arizona's Capitol Wednesday morning, where uniformed service members flanked the route McCain's casket traveled into the Arizona State Capitol Museum rotunda. There, McCain will lie in state after the private service.Inside the museum, McCain's family mourned the loss of the Arizona senator. (CNN) - The maker of Taytulla birth-control treatment issued a nationwide recall in the United States on Tuesday over concerns that misplaced capsules in pill packs could cause unintended pregnancies.A physician reported that four placebo capsules were packaged in the wrong order where active capsules should have been, drugmaker Allergan said in a statement.The physician sample pack should have 24 pink capsules with hormones followed by four maroon capsules without hormones, Allergan said. Instead, the faulty pack had four maroon placebos at the start of the treatment."As a result of this packaging error, oral contraceptive capsules that are taken out of sequence may place the user at risk for contraceptive failure and unintended pregnancy," the statement said."The reversing of the order may not be apparent to either new users or previous users of the product, increasing the likelihood of taking the capsules out of order."Allergan said it is arranging for return of all sample pack products with the lot #5620706 Exp. (KGTV) - A San Diego student's death initially prompted the construction of the bridge that collapsed Thursday at Florida International University.Alexis Dale, an 18-year-old FIU freshman from San Diego, died in August 2017 when she was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Southwest 8th Street and 109th Avenue near the school, according to the Miami Herald.Dale had just started studying information technology in June, the Herald reported.RELATED: Pedestrian bridge collapse at university in Miami kills at least oneThe bridge that collapsed Thursday was being built at the intersection where Dale died as a way for people to cross the busy street safely.At least eight people were trapped and at least one person died due to the bridge collapse in Miami."I am heartbroken at the news of the collapse of the pedestrian bridge on 8th Street and the resulting devastation.
