SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released bodycam footage of an officer-involved shooting that ended with one man dead in City Heights on Thursday.The video shows SDPD officers responding to the 4200 block of Menlo Ave. at about 4 p.m. SDPD said officers were called after reports of a man with a handgun confronting two women."The man manipulated the slide of the gun as if he were loading it and pointed the gun towards the women," according to an SDPD news release. The women drove away and then called 911.The video, which includes bodycam video from two officers and witness video, shows officers arrive to the scene and begin to yell to the man to drop the gun and step away. (SDPD has posted the full video here.)Police can be heard in the video telling the man not to pick the gun up after putting it on the ground, but that he was not complying.RELATED: Man dies after officer-involved shooting in City Heights“The male initially complied and raised his hands, at which point a firearm fell from his clothing onto the ground near him, they continued giving him directions to back away from the weapon, but he refused to comply," SDPD Lt. Matt Dobbs said Thursday.Police say the man picked the gun back up and pointed it at officers. That's when several officers shot at the man, according to Dobbs. The man was hit at least once. SDPD said the man was still moving and in control of the gun, and pointed it in officers' direction, prompting police to fire again.Police continued to yell to the man to get away from the gun, before SDPD says officers used a combination of non-lethal options, including a bean bag round and canine, to take him into custody.SDPD says the man was given medical aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released, but police say he appears to be a Hispanic or light-skinned African-American man in this 30s or 40s.A weapon was recovered at the scene, according to police, but it isn't known if the weapon was real or operational. SDPD said a witness provided cell phone video showing the man picking the gun back up and pointing it at officers.SDPD says seven officers fired shots. They are not being identified. As with all officer-involved shootings, the officers will be placed on administrative duty. No officers were reportedly injured.After the department's Homicide Unit completes its investigation, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will look at the incident to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions.The Internal Affairs Unit will also conduct an investigation, and the Shooting Review Board will evaluate the tactics used by the officers.The Community Review Board on Police Practices will conduct a review of the incident and provide any appropriate recommendations. The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the United States Attorney’s Office will also monitor the investigation. 2919

At first, the group of second- and third-grade students thought they were gathered to learn which student had won a bicycle after an essay challenge. One name was read. But then a second student won. A third student had their name read.Just when the streak seemed to come alive, chants of "one more bike" broke out among the students. But in a recent tournament, Shane Hansen put sportsmanship above being number one. After four matches, Hansen made it to the finals in the La Costa Canyon tournament. However, the final match was getting away from him. "It was the third period, the last period, I was down 12-3, I believe, we went out of bounds, and he ended up dislocating his shoulder," said Hansen. RELATED: Community helps man devoted to keeping park cleanHansen's opponent was not able to recover in the injury time allotted and was therefore forced to default match, meaning Hansen took first place. "I felt pretty bad because obviously, he was winning that match, and it wasn't my match to win."Hansen tried to forfeit himself from the match but was not allowed. "When he came up to me and was like, I want to trade my medal, I want to trade my medal, I was just kind of taken aback that in the moment, so quickly, he was wanting to do that," said Hansen's coach, Dustin Long. During the award ceremony, Hansen gave his gold medal to his opponent in exchange for the silver medal. Hansen held up two fingers representing second place in the podium photo, a symbolic gesture to his injured opponent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Restaurant owners across San Diego County are preparing to once again take their indoor operations outside, but some say this latest move will put them out of business for good.On Tuesday, state health officials announced updated data that places the county in the restrictive purple tier under California's COVID-19 reopening plan.For Ike Gazaryan and other local business owners, this will be the third time since March that they will be forced to shut down.Gazaryan, who owns Pushkin Russian Restaurant and Bar on Sixth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, said, "Every time you shut down and open, it costs ,000, ,000 because you have to buy all the produce, you have to bring all the employees back, you have to clean everything.”Gazaryan told ABC 10News that outdoor dining isn't an option at his location, and he said weather isn't the only issue."Before you had a lot of people and they were able to somewhat control the homelessness. Now, there are a lot of people losing everything they had, you have more homeless people, you have less people walking around because nobody is working in the offices, so percentage-wise it looks like it's a homeless town at this point," said Gazaryan.Gazaryan owns the restaurant and two other related businesses. He doesn't want to have to fire his 20 employees, but he doesn't think he's going to make it."I'm really afraid I'm going to lose my restaurant before the end of this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police announced Friday the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in East Village.Gary Cushinberry, 51, dragged the woman into some bushes near 13th Street and Island Avenue about 11:30 p.m. on November 5, police said. After the assault, Cushinberry ran west toward Island Avenue, police said.The woman had been walking alone to her car when she was attacked.The San Diego Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit released a composite sketch of the suspect the following day. Through tips and leads, investigators identified Cushinberry as the suspect.Police found Cushinberry Friday morning in the 200 block of 17th Street. He was arrested on several sex assault charges and taken to San Diego County Central Jail.Officers also confirmed that Cushinberry had an outstanding warrant for theft in Allen County, Indiana.Police are asking anyone with information to call the SDPD Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 975
