If you live with someone who has opposing views about the COVID-19 pandemic, it can make living situations awkward.Hunter Stanfield is an assistant professor of family science at Lipscomb University. When approaching someone about their views on COVID-19, and their habits, he said it’s best to remain calm and open-minded.“It is throwing everyone for a loop,” Stanfield said, “So instead of saying that you’re really getting worked up about this, that’s probably not the best initial approach. It may be ‘I can see that this is really upsetting to you, can you tell me a little bit more about that?'”He said trying to understand, before attempting to be understood, is a good starting place. “Am I willing to consider their perspective, or am I in this to prove them wrong? Which in the end gets us nowhere in all of this, so I think those basic things are really important and critical.”If you know why someone’s habits are a certain way, it’s possible to compromise.“I know some people say compromise is a dirty word, in this case, I think compromise really gets at the fact that I’m wanting to meet someone or be a part of someone’s life the best I can," Stanfield said.If the social awkwardness persists, a ton of people is going to therapy to sort it out right now.“I sometimes equate therapy to taking your car in to get an oil change. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance cameras captured a bizarre and dangerous accident in the South Bay. Darell Salondaguit has twelve surveillance cameras posted around his home at the corner of 15th Street and Imperial Beach Boulevard. He was taking a shower around eleven p.m. Monday when he heard a noise. "We heard a really big thud and thought it was cats in the backyard," said Salondaguit.When he woke up Tuesday morning, he discovered his wooden fence, potted plants, and palm tree were severely damaged. When he played back his cameras, he was shocked at what he saw. "Just a tire flying across from over there, crashing through here," described Salondaguit.The tire flew off of a car on Imperial Beach Boulevard, rolled across 15th Street and crashed through his fence. The cameras also show a man and a woman, casually step over the damaged fence, pick up the tire and leave."They had to come through the yard and get their tire, they didn't bother knocking or anything," said Salondaguit.He filed a report with the Sheriff's Department and hopes the people responsible will come forward."It was like really scary, cause I tend to check the plants at nighttime to see if they're properly watered because we have an automatic watering system. In a college town like San Luis Obispo, California, the local economy relies heavily on student spending.Since the pandemic hit in mid-March, however, COVID-19 has been costing colleges and this community big bucks.“It’s affected us business-wise; it’s not as many employees nor as many students,” said Darnell Harris, manager of Firestone Grill.Harris says pre-COVID, the college hotspot was selling up to 3,000 meals a day. Now, that number has been cut almost in half.“It affects me and it hits me because it is my livelihood,” Harris said. “This is what I’ve done for a living for 25 years.”Coronavirus concerns have resulted in fewer college students living in this area, especially on campus at nearby California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.“I can’t remember the last time a had a full night’s sleep,” said Keith Humphrey, Cal Poly Vice President of Student Affairs.Humphrey is projecting a million operating deficit for 2020-21 after the college refunded about million in student rent and food plans after the school went all online back in March.With the dorms now about half full, Cal Poly is spending about 5,000 a month in COVID testing.“There’s no playbook or script for something like this,” Humphrey said. “We will be okay. We budget for rainy days.
