A San Diego teenager will use her family's Spring Break trip to Washington, D.C., to advocate for stronger gun control laws.Faith Campbell, a Sophomore at Frances Parker School in Linda Vista, already has a meeting set up with Representative Susan Davis to discuss gun reform. She also has a stack of hand written letters from herself and her classmates to deliver to other area Congressmen and women."A letter is really powerful," Campbell says. "It shows that someone took the time out of their day to write specifically to this person."Campbell says she wrote a letter to Representative Davis after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February. Rep. Davis wrote back asking is she would like to meet.Campbell took part in last month's March for Our Lives in San Diego, joining thousands of others to call for stricter gun control laws. But she says she doesn't want the momentum to stall now that the protests and marches are over.Now, Campbell is inviting all of her classmates and fellow teens to write letters. She says she'll deliver them while she's in DC."It doesn't really matter how many letters I get," she says. "It's just the fact that people are writing."She says she'll take any letter written by a teen if they can get it to her by this Friday, April 13th. A panel of three federal judges in North Carolina ruled Monday the state's congressional map is an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander that favors Republicans, and said it may require districts to be redrawn before the November elections.Republicans hold 10 of the state's 13 seats in the House of Representatives, and a redrawn map could put more seats in play for Democrats -- potentially affecting control of the House.The judges acknowledged primary elections have already occurred, but said they were reluctant to let voting take place in districts that courts twice found had been unconstitutionally drawn.The same decision was reached by the court in January, but the Supreme Court declined in June to hear the case and it was sent back for reconsideration. The Supreme Court has never ruled a partisan gerrymander to be unconstitutional, and it passed up three separate opportunities to do so in the last term.The decision Monday could result in an election-year appeal to the Supreme Court. The court is currently evenly split on ideological lines and lacks a ninth justice to tip the scale. The court also traditionally does not approve of judicial actions so close to an election that could affect the outcome. 1231

A Miami police officer has been relieved of duty after a video showed him kicking a suspect in the head, as the man was lying on the ground and getting handcuffed."The video depicts a clear violation of policy," Miami Police Chief Jorge R. Colina said in a statement. "The officer has been relieved of duty and the Miami-Dade State Attorney's office has been contacted."A cell phone video shot by a witness shows a man lying in a yard with his hands on his head. The first police officer approaches him and starts putting handcuffs on the suspect. The suspect, identified as David Suazo in the police report, was not resisting and was lying on his stomach. His hands are being restrained. Suddenly, another officer can be seen running toward him and kicking him in the head.That officer then drops to the ground next to the suspect and appears to put him in a headlock.A woman can be heard expressing shock. "You didn't have to do all that, buddy. You tripping."CNN has attempted to reach the officer, Mario Figueroa, but has not yet gotten a response. A man who held up a "Trump 2020" sign while riding Splash Mountain at Disney World says he has been banned from the park for life.Dion Cini of New York City donned a "Make America Great Again" visor and strategically held up a "Trump 2020" banner so it would show up in the on-ride photos that are available for purchase near the exit of Splash Mountain.NBC News reports that Cini was later told that he has been permanently prevented from visiting its parks.Disney told NBC that it wasn't the content of Cini's sign that resulted in the ban but the fact that he held up a sign "to incite a crowd."Disney World's park rules state that "unauthorized events, demonstrations or speeches, or the usage of any flag, banner or sign for commercial purposes, or to incite a crowd" as among its prohibited activities.Cini posted a picture of his ride photo, along with what appears to be a ticket documenting his ban from the parks on FacebookAlex Hider is a writer for the E.W.
