 SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors will consider an appeal Wednesday intended to block construction of a Hindu temple on county land.Community members are concerned that a proposed Sringeri Vidya Bharati Foundation temple may increase traffic and have a "negative impact on community character," according to the county.The 10-acre building is proposed for a vacant 19-acre plot north of and adjacent to Old San Pasqual Road and south of State Route 78, between Summit Drive and San Pasqual Trail.The county Planning Commission approved a major land use permit for the temple in February.County Planning and Development Services officials recommend that supervisors deny the appeal so construction can move forward. 759

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Another migrant caravan has reportedly formed and is making its way through Mexico, according to Pedro Rios, the director of the American Friends Service Committee. Rios said the group has more than 2,600 people and is picking up more along the way. Like past caravans, it is fleeing violence from countries of violence, and Rios believes many will likely try to reach the U.S. border to make an asylum plea. “It includes not only Central Americans from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, but also Cubans and people from Venezuela and various African countries,” Rios said. “There is definitely a lot of families, in fact, they’re moving at the pace of families.” Rios said networks of humanitarian and human rights groups are watching the caravan. The group entered Southern Mexico and is headed towards Mexico City. From there, the caravan could decided to head up towards the Tijuana, San Diego portion of the border, or head towards Texas. 10News reached out Customs and Border Protection officials after hours Tuesday, asking if they are aware of the caravan and what preparations they are taking.  A Kansas congressional hopeful said Monday that he's sticking by his campaign giveaway of an AR-15 rifle despite criticism in light of last Wednesday's mass school shooting in Florida."We aren't using this to raise money," Tyler Tannahill told HLN's Carol Costello. "We had this planned over a month ago to kind of coincide with the Kansas Republican Convention."The Republican candidate launched the giveaway along with his candidacy on February 13, a day before an AR-15-style rifle was used in the Parkland, Florida, massacre that left 17 people dead.  584

"Black Bear" is a proudly weird film that shakes up the formula to the point that it explodes like a soda left in the fridge.The experimental film's fortunes rise and fall around the dryly comic talents of Aubrey Plaza, who delivers in a major way, exploring the playful cruelty she's subtly hinted at in many of her comedic roles.Plaza explores her dark side as Allison, a manipulative actress, and filmmaker who rents a home from Blair (Sarah Gordon) and her husband, Gabe (Christopher Abbott) to shoot a mysterious new project. She quickly inserts herself into their personal disputes, taking a sadistic pleasure in driving a wedge between the couple with subtle insults and provocations.Allison sees people as her playthings, and freely spins lies, half-truths, and seductive inferences, slithering in and out of suspicion, trust, hostility, and feigned kindness toward her mysterious goals. The interplay between Allison, Gabe, and Blair was enough to carry the movie, which would have been better suited had it stuck with the theme to its bitter end.Instead, the script flips just as the intensity level simmers.Writer/director Lawrence Michael Levine divides the film into two parts. The first is a captivating psychological game, but the second seems like a slew of barely-connected outtakes in which actors have swapped roles.While the scenes are often fascinating as they stand alone, they don't coalesce into much of a unified purpose. If the goal was to satirize the art of filmmaking or play with the quirks of the actor-director-writer dynamic, the result is a convoluted mess. Whatever inside jokes or buried subtext Levine were going for just doesn't translate.The title, which is no doubt some sort of opaque metaphor, also refers to a literal bear who just shows up, because, well, why not? Once Levine has stripped his project of any sense of cohesion, just about anything goes.
