At Tuesday’s presidential debate, President Donald Trump complained that poll watchers in Philadelphia were denied access to early voting in the critical battleground state.“I’m urging my supporters to go into the polls and watch very carefully because that’s what has to happen,” Trump said. “I am urging them to do it. As you know, today there was a big problem. In Philadelphia, they went in to watch. They’re called poll watchers, a very safe, very nice thing. They were thrown out. They weren’t allowed to watch. You know why? Because bad things happen in Philadelphia. Bad things.”Poll watching is generally a commonly-accepted democratic practice employed throughout the US. But there are questions on what constitutes a polling site.In Pennsylvania, voting centers are not considered polling locations. Early voting centers are locations where voters can pick up a mail-in ballot and can complete and return the ballot on-site. Voters have the option of taking the ballot home and returning it before the election.“We don’t give someone a poll watcher certificate to … watch somebody fill out their ballot at their kitchen table,” Republican Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt told the Philadelphia Inquirer.While poll-watching laws vary by state, the practice is generally accepted, but it has limits. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, poll watchers are to take a hands-off approach.For instance, poll watchers should not talk to voters, interfere with the voting process or campaign while on-site. Poll watchers, however, can watch for irregularities and report them to elections officials and political campaigns.There are generally limits on the number of poll watchers a campaign or party can designate. An accreditation process in 40 states means an ordinary citizen cannot walk into a polling site without some level of training, according to the Carter Center. "This process is led by local party chairs, candidates, or ballot issue groups and can require approval by election officials or the secretary of state’s office," the Carter Center said.Some interpreted Trump’s call for poll watchers as a voter intimidation tactic."Trump also told 'his supporters' to 'go into the polls and watch very carefully,'" said Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford on Twitter. "But he wasn't talking about poll watching. He was talking about voter intimidation. FYI, voter intimidation is illegal in Nevada. Believe me when I say it: You do it, and you will be prosecuted."A hands-off approach is what differentiates someone engaging in legal poll watching and illegal voter intimidation. AUSTIN, Texas. (KGTV) -- A series of explosions in Austin has terrified residents as hundreds of local and federal officials try and determine who is behind the incidents. The first explosion was set off on March 2 and killed 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House. Numerous other people have been killed or injured by the series of bombings including 17-year-old Draylen Mason, who was killed after a package bomb went off inside his home on March 12. Mason's mother was also injured in the explosion. A 75-year-old woman, 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were also all injured in the serial bombings. The six bombings left police in Austin warning residents to not take any chances, saying if it looks suspicious, don't approach it. The timeline below shows all six of the bombings federal officials believe are tied together:  887

At least 48 people were shot within a 24-hour span on Sunday in New York, capping off a violent Fourth of July weekend, police said.Among those shot, 10 of them were fatal.Since Friday, there were 63 victims of gun violence, continuing the rising trend this summer.Most of the shootings were on Sunday, though there were a number of incidents on Saturday, including one in which no one was hurt. Police opened fire in Astoria, Queens on Saturday night when they spotted an individual shooting at someone else. A suspect was taken into custody in that incident.Police also witnessed violence first hand outside the 40th precinct in the Bronx Saturday night. A bullet pierced the front window of their marked cruiser.While in Brooklyn, a flaming firecracker was tossed inside a patrol car with an officer sitting inside.In a pair of tweets from Manhattan police commanders, the chiefs called out city leaders, saying the city is under attack, and they are demanding action.Former police commissioner Ray Kelly criticized Mayor Bill de Blasio for limiting anti-crime units as “crime is raging out of control in New York City.”Police are searching for suspects in multiple shootings.According to the NYPD, there were 575 incidents with 705 victims from Jan. 1 through July 4 of 2020. There were 369 incidents with 423 victims in the same time period last year. BAKERFIELD, Calif. - An Oildale, Calif. 11-year-old tried to kill himself after his tablet was taken away, according to court documents obtained by Scripps affiliate KERO-TV.The documents show Kern County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Woodrow Avenue Sunday evening for reports of an attempted suicide.The boy's mother told deputies she found her son hanging in his bedroom closet by a sweater.The mother said she pulled him from the makeshift noose and called 911. Deputies performed CPR when they got there and the boy was then taken to the hospital for further treatment. As some companies consider making work-from-home permanent, others see the value in creating a workplace for employees. "We've always been flexible in our workplace, we've always allowed people to work from home if they want, and what we learned is that people do want a place that is their own that we can come into," said Reid Carr, CEO of the marketing agency Red Door Interactive. After years of leasing an office in downtown San Diego, the company wanted to create its own space, designed to foster collaboration and growth."We were excited when we found it, we had a vision for how this whole process was going to go down," said Carr. The company purchased nearly half an acre of property to create a campus-style workplace. But after the pandemic hit, they overhauled the design to ensure it was a space employees not only wanted to go to but could feel safe in.The new campus will incorporate touchless features throughout the buildings, like doors and water bottle filling stations. They're creating outdoor meeting spaces with heaters and shades so that they can be used year-round. And inside, they're investing in the best available HVAC systems for air filtration."I'm learning at all this stuff as we go, but we're looking at hospital grade stuff. The perspective we took is there's always going to be flus and colds, so why not do these things that will help keep people from spreading disease," said Carr. In addition to having their own socially distanced desks, employees will have designated areas separate from visitors, including the kitchen. One building will be the epicenter of conference rooms so they can be easily cleaned more frequently."Certain things never change. You want to feel like you belong to something, you want to connect with people," said Carr.
