Just spotted the huge fire at a plant in Lake Charles. Residents in nearby areas and north of the plant are being asked to shelter indoors, close their windows and turn off their AC. It is unclear if this fire is related to Hurricane #Laura. pic.twitter.com/HLjx2VSjQY— Maya Rodriguez (@MayaJRodriguez) August 27, 2020 326
JULIAN, Calif. (KGTV) — Visitors flocked to Julian ahead of an impending storm that could bring snow to the scenic mountain town for Thanksgiving.Wednesday, temperatures remained low but dipped as the sun went down. Rain and mist made it difficult for shoppers — clutching their coats and umbrellas — who were still making their way around Julian's main strip. Many are waiting for the snow that's expected to hit the area Thursday and Friday. Some even unprepared for the week's cold weather.RELATED:Thanksgiving storm to hit San Diego: What you need to knowSan Diego to see Thanksgiving storm with holiday travel near record highSheriff's Department offering free home checks over ThanksgivingWhere to go for the snow in San Diego"He forgot his jacket. I told him, 'where's your jacket at?'" laughed Traci Ramirez, pointing at her husband. He was able to purchase a jacket at a local shop.As more guests are sure to arrive for the snow, locals advised visitors to prepare for the powder even if it doesn't materialize."I always say bring them and not need them. They're pretty good about plowing the main roads but not the private roads. Last 'snowmaggeddon' all the staff was stuck here for a week," Kat Bowles, assistant manager at Julian Lodge, said.Gloves, jackets, long pants, and boots will make a trip to the snow much more comfortable. Also, chains will likely be required on many roads leading to the mountains. Anyone planning to head up to the mountains should pack chains for their vehicle.Sledding and fun in the snow should only be done on public lands, not on private land or on the side of roadways where traffic is a hazard. And before leaving, locals ask visitors follow the adage "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints" and clean up after themselves. 1796
JUSTIN, Texas – Yaser Abdel Said, one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives, was taken into custody in Texas on Wednesday.Said, 63, has been wanted since 2008, when the FBI says the father shot and killed his teenage daughters, 18-year-old Amina and 17-year-old Sarah. Before the shooting in Irving, the Egyptian-born suspect allegedly took the teens for a ride in his taxicab under the guise of taking them to get something to eat.A police report at the time said a family member reported Said threatened “bodily harm” against Sarah for going on a date with a non-Muslim, The Associated Press reports.Based on an investigation by the Irving Police Department, a capital murder-multiple warrant was issued for Said’s arrest on Jan. 2, 2008. And on Aug. 21 of that year, a federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant was issued by a U.S. district court.Said has been on the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives list since December 4, 2014. He was the 504th person to be placed on the list, which was established in March 1950.The search for Said was coordinated by the FBI’s Dallas Violent Crimes Task Force, which is composed of FBI special agents and officers from the Carrollton, Dallas, Garland, Grand Prairie, and Irving Police Departments and the Texas Department of Public Safety.Said is currently in federal custody and will soon be transferred to Dallas County.“His capture and arrest bring us one step closer to justice for Amina and Sarah,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Matthew DeSarno.“Even after 12 years of frustration and dead ends, the pursuit for their killer never ceased,” said Irving Police Chief Jeff Spivey. “Today’s arrest of their father, Yaser Said brings us closer to ensuring justice is served on their behalf.” 1758

Joe Biden will be meeting with the family of Jacob Blake during his visit to Wisconsin on Thursday. The family's attorney confirmed the update to TMJ4 on Wednesday.Biden is expected to visit Kenosha on Thursday with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, just two days after President Donald Trump was there. The visit was announced Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, President Trump surveyed damage and met with law enforcement. He did not meet with Blake's family while he was in Wisconsin. During a news conference ahead of the visit, the president said the family had wanted to involve lawyers in their conversation. "And I thought that was inappropriate, so I didn't do that. But I did speak with the pastor of the family," Trump said.Former Vice President Biden is scheduled to visit Kenosha on Thursday, a little less than a month after he took part in the virtual Democratic National Convention. Biden did not travel to Milwaukee during the convention due to coronavirus concerns.During an education event on Wednesday, Biden told media that he has received "overwhelming requests" from Democratic leaders to visit Wisconsin."What we want to do is -- we've got to heal. We've got to put things together. Bring people together," Biden said during the address, CNN reported. When asked why he was traveling to Wisconsin, only the third time in recent months in which he's gotten on a plane, Biden said his message was still getting out."A President has a responsibility to set examples- set the right example of how to get out. To wear a mask, not be in a potential cauldron for significant COVID outbreaks.," said Biden. "What I've done is met...with medical experts. We worked out a protocol, how I get on a plane, how it's sanitized, how I engage people. It's always at a safe distance. Everybody's wearing masks. The vast majority of people I'm meeting with are all tested as well. I'm just trying to set the example. Wearing protective gear, the mask, making sure we proceed with adequate social distancing"The specific details for Biden's visit have not been released yet.Following the announcement of the Biden's visit, the Republican Party of Wisconsin issued the following statement:“It shouldn’t take rioters burning down the City of Kenosha to get Joe Biden to visit our state. Joe Biden made COVID excuses as to why he couldn’t visit Wisconsin, but the seven-day average of new COVID cases in Wisconsin remains nearly unchanged compared to the DNC week. This desperation trip is about Biden’s support slipping as violent anti-Trump protestors are creating chaos around the country."This story originally reported by Jackson Danbeck on tmj4.com. 2651
