A new study about video gamers pretty much shatters the stereotype many people have about them.Researchers at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia conducted what they say is the first study on body mass index from a worldwide sample of e-sports players. What they found surprised even them.“When we went into the study, we were kind of expecting that the gamers would have a much higher BMI than the general population, but what we found was the complete opposite. We found that players tended to have up to 21% more likelihood of being a normal weight,” said lead researcher Michael Trotter.The study included hundreds of participants from 65 countries. It showed gamers were between 9% and 21% more likely to be a healthy weight. Players also drank less and smoked less than the general population.Trotter started the university's e-sports program before he started studying for his PhD. He says he was surprised that serious players focused on their health almost as much as their playing. He says players requested a personal trainer, a dietician, and a sports psychologist.The study also found the healthier players were the better players.“We found that the players who were in the top 10% of all players and we measured up to 2.5 thousand players, it wasn't a small study. We found the top 10% of all players were exercising significantly more than their lower ranked counterparts,” said Trotter.Trotter says the growth of e-sports is huge and future programs will need to look at this study and realize they must focus on the health of players.He also says future research will need to be done on the overall health of e-sports players, such as muscle mass and bone density. 1706

A software flaw is being blamed for showing a positive COVID-19 test result incorrectly for more than two dozen tests. University of Kentucky laboratory scientists say they were inspecting and reviewing raw data from a testing platform when they became concerned about discrepancies in the data. They believe the testing platform, Thermo Fisher, which was authorized for emergency use by the FDA, had a software flaw that might result in false positives.After re-testing the samples using another platform, scientists confirmed that the tests initially reported as positive for COVID-19 were negative. The flaw was only found in one of the four testing platforms that UK's clinical laboratory uses.Every patient who received incorrect results is being notified about the issue. No negative results changed. UK HealthCare also has notified Thermo Fisher Scientific and the FDA."For anyone tested at UK HealthCare, it is important to know that the vast majority of results have not changed," said UK Executive Vice President for Health Affairs Dr. Mark Newman. "Since these very astute employees discovered this issue, we have taken extensive measures to validate each test in question and worked diligently to contact all parties – the vendor, the FDA -- and most importantly, our patients and providers."UK HealthCare says they are working with local health departments and the Kentucky Department of Public Health to correct all data."UK's clinical laboratory has performed more than 30,000 COVID-19 tests since March and only a very small percentage of tests have been affected by this software defect," Newman said. A Tennessee woman was behind a security threat that placed the White House on lockdown.The vehicle that rammed the security gate Friday afternoon is registered to Jessica R. Ford, a woman who has had run-ins with Secret Service in the past. The car also had Rutherford County tags.The incident report says Ford intentionally hit the fixed security barrier with her car while holding a gun in her hand behind the wheel.According to the report, Ford hit the gate, and continued to accelerate, while an officer demanded she put the gun down multiple times. Witnesses reported seeing smoke from her vehicle's tires.When she did not comply,  the officer removed the gun from hand before she was pulled from behind the steering wheel.Once they pulled her out of the driver's side window, they handcuffed her and searched the vehicle.The White House was placed on lockdown for about an hour during the investigation. The Secret Service confirmed no shots were fired during the incident, and no law enforcement personnel were injured.President Trump was inside the White House at the time, hosting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Turnbull remained at the White House as the incident was being investigated.The incident wasn't Ford's first run-in with secret service. According to reports, Ford tried to get past security and scale a fence at the White House in April, May and July of 2017.  She was arrested and charged with unlawful entry and ordered to stay away from the White House grounds.Ford has a lengthy criminal history in Tennessee as well. In 2003, she was charged with DUI and prescription fraud. From 2004 to 2006 she was charged with multiple counts of violation of probation and resisting arrest. In 2011,  in Nashville she was charged with criminal trespassing.The Secret Services said Ford is now facing multiple charges in connection to Friday's incident including Unlawful Entry, Carrying a Pistol without a License, and Destruction of Government Property.Learn more about Friday's incident here. 2113

A motorcade escorting Vice President Mike Pence to a series events near Pittsburgh was involved in two accidents on Thursday, according to reporters in the press pool.Reporters for NBC News and Newsmax say that after Pence arrived at a Western Pennsylvania airport, a Trump campaign bus was involved in a "minor accident" with a dump truck. Though the Vice President was aboard the bus at the time of the accident, he was unhurt. Pence immediately left the bus and moved to a limo.Later, the outlets report that two motorcycles in the motorcade were involved in an accident. Neither driver was injured, and the motorcade was again on the move shortly after.On Thursday, Pence tweeted his thanks to all law enforcement officers involved in his motorcade. 761
