Mattel released a 2020 special edition Barbie Doll in honor of the Dia de Muertos holiday, but just days after it hit shelves, it may be hard to find one. On September 1, the 2020 edition of the Dia de Muertos Barbie Doll was revealed. In 2019, the doll maker released their first-ever Dia de Muertos Barbie Doll. It was one of the company’s most popular dolls for last year, and Mattel announced it would be the first in a collection. As promised, a version of the doll was released this year. A search of online retailers days after the release finds many “out of stock” messages. Amazon says the doll is currently unavailable, as does Walmart and Target’s websites. A quick search will show if there are any available in-store at locations, but the results are few.The 2020 edition features a light pink lace dress with floral and skeleton accents, along with traditional skeleton-like designs on her face."My hope for these dolls is that they're able to bring more awareness to the Dia de Muertos celebration. The Dia de Muertos celebration is very important because it honors and pays respect to family and friends that are no longer with us. It is such a beautiful tradition and I love that Barbie is now honoring the Dia de Muertos holiday,” said Barbie Designer Javier Meabe.Dia de Muertos, Day of the Dead, is celebrated between October 31 and November 2 each year throughout Mexico, and many people of Mexican heritage around the world. It is a time to gather with family to celebrate the lives of departed loved ones. Events include music, food, sweets, flowers and offerings to loved ones. 1607
Melania Trump is slamming Joe Biden, Democrats, and the media as she campaigns for her husband in Pennsylvania.WATCH RECAP:In her first solo appearance of the presidential campaign, Mrs. Trump says Democrats focused on a “sham impeachment” instead of the coronavirus pandemic. "The Democrats have decided to put their own agenda ahead of the American people's well-being," Melania said. "Instead, they attempt a divide, a divide on something that should not be non-partisan. A divide that causes confusion and fear instead of hope and security."She denounced what she called Biden’s “socialist agenda” and criticized media coverage of “idle gossip and palace intrigue.”Melania Trump also defended President Donald Trump’s record on COVID-19 even as he continues to downplay the threat of a virus that has killed more than 226,000 Americans."We all know the American spirit is stronger than this virus," the First Lady stated to the crowd in Pennsylvania. "We have proven that we can and will overcome this unexpected challenge."Her husband's chief of staff, Mark Meadows, said over the weekend that the U.S. is not going to be able to contain the virus. The first lady’s event 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Philadelphia drew a couple of hundred supporters who piled into a converted barn typically used for wedding receptions. The overwhelming majority wore masks, but there was little social distancing.Mrs. Trump was diagnosed with the coronavirus earlier this month along with her husband, and she decided against attending a rally with the president last week because she was still feeling lingering symptoms. 1623

Meat-based idioms, like "flogging a dead horse" or "taking the bull by the horns," can be compared with homophobic and racist language, according to animal rights organization PETA."Just as it became unacceptable to use racist, homophobic, or ableist language, phrases that trivialize cruelty to animals will vanish as more people begin to appreciate animals for who they are and start 'bringing home the bagels' instead of the bacon," PETA said on Twitter. The group took to Twitter Tuesday, offering a graphic showing some possible alternatives to meat-related expressions.Instead of "kill two birds with one stone" say "feed two birds with one scone," and instead of "being the guinea pig," say "be the test tube," PETA said."Words matter, and as our understanding of social justice evolves, our language evolves along with it," it added. The comparison with racism and homophobia was met with anger on Twitter, with some arguing that PETA was trivializing race and gender issues.Others said the animal rights organization was giving vegetarians and vegans a bad name.PETA's tweet comes after a UK-based academic argued last month that an increased awareness of vegan issues may lead to new modes of expression. 1220
