His neighborhood there at 14th Avenue North and Cockrill Street was hard hit by the tornadoes, and friends are hurting.Reverend Bryant turned his church into a supply depot and rest stop for volunteers and storm victims alike. "We're getting what we need: gasoline, hot dogs, hamburgers and more love," said Bryant. He said volunteers topped out at over one-thousand last week, but things have improved dramatically. Now the volunteer army is down to three-hundred, many of them youngsters."It's sad how much people in our community have lost. Like their homes and everything they own," fifth grader Patrick Pritchartt said.For the students, it's like a field trip into the real world, a chance to help and learn."They are getting a first hand knowledge of what it means to serve others," Reverend Bryant said. Yvonne Staples, one of the four members of the famed gospel and R&B group the Staples Singers, died on Tuesday at the age of 80, a family spokesperson confirmed to NPR. A cause of death has not been announced. The Staples Singers had several No. 1 hits in the 1970s, including "I'll Take You There" and "Let's Do It Again." The group comprised of Yvonne Staples, and sisters Mavis and Cleotha and brother Pervis. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. The Staples Singers also earned a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2005 Grammys. Yvonne's sister Cleotha died in 2013. Yvonne Staples was survived by her brother Pervis, and Mavis, who is coming off a tour with Bob Dylan.  766
