Soledad National Veterans Memorial, honoring those who've selflessly served and sacrificed for the nation.Wayne Thompson, who served in the Navy for 30 years, says he attends the Mt. Soledad ceremony every year.“This world would be a lot different if we didn’t have the people that are on this wall. If they didn’t give their lives for the people in this country," said Thompson.Thompson did three tours in Vietnam and now suffers from health complications due to Agent Orange. He's had 11 seizures but says he would serve all over again if asked.“I kept wanting to serve, I don’t know, I just felt like I was doing something for the country, it’s hard to understand, but you get a fulfillment out of serving somebody," said Thompson.He says he's grateful for those who served before him and those serving now.Col. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a man died in Fallbrook late Friday night.Deputies responded to the 440 block of Ammunition Road around 10:40 p.m. to assist the North County Fire Department with an injured man.When deputies arrived, they found a man identified as Nicolas Ramirez suffering from an unknown traumatic injury.Ramirez was then taken to the hospital where he later died. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department has identified the officer involved in an East Village shooting over the weekend as Andres Ruiz. The department says Ruiz is assigned to the Canine Unit and has been with the department for more than 11 years. The incident started just before 10 p.m. on May 23 at an apartment complex on Park Boulevard and Market Street. Police were called to the complex following reports of a woman trowing objects from a window. When they arrived, officers found broken glass and furniture on the sidewalk below the unit. RELATED: Woman hurt in officer-involved shooting in East VillageAuthorities say the woman refused to listen and brandished a knife, continuing to throw objects from the window and refusing to come out of the building, prompting police to force their way into the building. After the woman locked herself into the bathroom, police used verbal direction, chemical agents, and a police canine in an effort to take the woman into custody. When officers made their way into the bathroom, the department says the woman grabbed and punched the canine and threatened officers with the knife. “One officer fearing that he was going to be struck or stabbed with a knife, fired at least one round striking the female,” said Capt. Rich Freedman of the San Diego Police Department.The woman was treated and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured, but some people were hit by objects that were thrown out of the window. The suspect has only been identified as a 26-year-old San Diego resident. 1593
