BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's economic planner and price regulator, said Friday it has asked local governments to crack down on some gas stations selling diesel above the state-set prices.NDRC investigators found some gas stations have been selling diesel above state-set prices in the provinces of Sichuan, Hubei, Henan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Jiangxi and Shanxi and Chongqing Municipality.The NDRC has requested local governments to punish the offending gas stations.The stations were ordered to stop overcharging and turn over illegal incomes to authorities, according to a statement on the NDRC web-site.Also, the stations would receive punitive fines, it said.Among the violators, Yueyuan gas station in Xichang, Sichuan Province, sold No. 0 diesel for 9 yuan (1.35 U.S. dollars) per liter, as against the state-set 6.55 yuan.The NDRC said that consumers can call 12358 to complain about diesel overpricing and the price regulators will respond quickly.The latest measures were adopted in the wake of those publicized Tuesday, which were aimed to stop some refiners and diesel wholesalers from overcharging.An unprecedented diesel shortage has hit China's cities and markets, leading some wholesalers and gas stations to sell diesel above the state-set prices.Due to the diesel shortage, some enterprises suspended production and express deliveries turned into "snail deliveries."People found that it took much longer for buses to arrive and even some crematories found it hard to get enough diesel for cremations."We can't find enough diesel. BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Friday ordered local governments to begin a campaign to inspect projects under construction to eliminate safety risks in the wake of recent fire accidents.Local authorities should work on "effective prevention of accidents" and improve safety, especially in winter when fire and gas poisoning accidents tend to be more frequent, the ministry said in a statement on its website.Special monitoring should be undertaken of reconstruction work and of projects involving the expansion of existing buildings, it said, urging a "serious" crackdown on illegal practices during building operations, according to the statement.The notice followed the call from the State Council on Wednesday demanding tougher fire prevention measures, after a blaze Monday gutted a high-rise apartment building in Shanghai, killing at least 58 people, and another fire engulfed a 99-year-old building at Tsinghua University in Beijing on Nov. 13.

BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's retail sales of consumer goods grew 18.7 percent in November year on year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Saturday.Retail sales of consumer goods stood at 1.39 trillion yuan (208.1 billion U.S. dollars) in November and the growth rate was 0.1 percentage points higher than that in October, the NBS spokesman Sheng Laiyun said at a press conference.Retail sales of consumer goods in the January-to-November period reached 13.92 trillion yuan, up 18.4 percent from the same period last year.The growth rate in the January-to-November period was 0.1 percentage points higher than that in the January-to-October period.The NBS said urban consumption hit 1.2 trillion yuan in November, up 19 percent year on year.Rural residents spent 186.5 billion yuan on consumption goods in November, up 17 percent year on year.In breakdown, catering sector sales rose 19.6 percent to 160.1 billion yuan in November from a year earlier, while retail sales increased 18.6 percent to 1.23 trillion yuan in November year on year.
