"We hope that the Haitian people, with the help of the international community, will overcome the difficulties, rebuild their homes and achieve self-reliance at an early date."The new Chinese contribution follows a Jan. 13 decision of the Red Society of China to donate one million U.S. dollars in cash to Haiti, he said. "On Jan. 15, the Chinese government announced its decision to provide 30 million yuan (about 4.4 million U.S. dollars) worth of humanitarian emergency supplies to Haiti."The first charter plane loaded with these supplies arrived in Haiti on Jan. 17, bringing to the local people medicine, tents, portable emergency lights, water purification equipment, food, drinking water and clothes, he said. "The second plane, which was delayed due to limited capacity of the Haitian airport, will arrive on Jan. 26."Since Jan. 13, the 60-member emergency rescue team sent by the Chinese government has fully engaged in disaster relief in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, he said. "The team has carried out effective search and rescue operations at the headquarters of MINUSTAH (the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti), the prime minister's palace and other places, with a number of bodies found, including those of Special Representative Hedi Annabi of MINUSTAH and other UN staff.""The medical team of the Chinese rescue team are providing medical support for several hundred local people everyday," he said. "At this very moment, the Chinese international rescue team is still working at this forefront of disaster relief in Haiti and doing its utmost to help more people affected by the earthquake."Since the earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, the international community has worked in solidarity to offer a helping hand to the Haitian people and government, he said. WASHINGTON, March 24 (Xinhua) -- China and U.S. economic and trade frictions should be handled appropriately to advance the healthy and steady development of the bilateral economic and trade ties, a senior Chinese trade official said on Wednesday."For the moment, the biggest challenge facing the China-U.S. economic and trade relationship is trade protectionism and the politicizing of our economic and trade issues," Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Zhong Shan told reporters at Embassy of China in Washington. "We hope that China and the U.S. can treat each other as partners instead of rivals."Zhong said China is against the tendency to politicize bilateral economic and trade issues.Under the pressure of the election year and high unemployment rate, some U.S. senators last week proposed a legislation to press China to appreciate its currency.The bill requires the U.S. Treasury Department to identify countries with "fundamentally misaligned currencies" and asks the Commerce Department to investigate currency undervaluation as a " countervailable subsidy."Meanwhile, 130 U.S. congressmen wrote to the government, demanding the Obama administration take actions to appreciate the RMB against the dollar."The RMB exchange rate is not the root cause for U.S. trade deficit with China or key to U.S. unemployment," Zhong said.He said that the economic structures of the two countries are highly complementary. To force an appreciation in the RMB cannot resolve U.S. deficit or unemployment.Zhong noted that given the large scale, broad scope and rapid development of the China-U.S. bilateral economic and trade cooperation, frictions and problems are inevitable."As long as the two sides stick to a strategic and long-term approach to our economic and trade ties and appropriately handle trade frictions through communication and consultation, we can find common grounds and shelf differences and constantly further the bilateral economic and trade relations."

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The total length of China's rural roads had reached 3.3 million kilometers by the end of 2009, connecting 99.4 percent of towns and villages, a transportation official said here Sunday.Some 381,000 kilometers of roads were built in China in the past year, far exceeding the annual target of 300,000 kilometers, China's Vice Minister for Transport, Feng Zhenglin, said at a conference.By the end of 2009, residents at 35,000 towns and 553,000 villages in China's rural areas were able to take buses to travel, representing 98 percent and 87.8 percent of China's towns and villages, respectively, according to Feng.Li Shenglin, Minister of Transport, vowed at the conference to boost rural passenger transportation.Feng also vowed to improve the highway network that connects towns and villages this year and in the country's 12th Five Year Plan which starts in 2011.

Ltd. in Sichuan's Deyang City.The company suffered severe losses in the Wenchuan quake, with building collapses and huge casualties.The company held a donation ceremony on Monday, collecting more than 80,000 yuan from the staff in less than one hour.
