Carey Dean Moore, 60, a convicted murderer of two 47-year-old fathers in 1979, has become Nebraska's first execution by lethal injection.The execution by lethal injection — by way of a four-drug combination that's never been previously used in an execution — started at 10 a.m. Tuesday, as scheduled. The gravity of what was happening to him was clear on his face and his expression," Duggan said. "But he was composed. His voice was clear when spoke. He clearly looked around the room to see who all was there, otherwise kind of kept his gaze toward the floor."The media witnesses said they were not able to see when each drug was administered during the lethal injection procedure. They said they were secluded from the other witnesses, and could not hear inside the execution chamber."There didn't appear to be any complications," said News Channel Nebraska reporter Chip Matthews, another media member selected to witness the execution.Brent Martin of Nebraska Radio Network was also a media witness to Moore's execution Tuesday. Both men were 47-year-old fathers shot by Moore five days apart.Ahead of the execution, Moore was taken from his death-row cell at Tecumseh prison to the State Penitentiary in Lincoln and placed under a suicide watch in a medical unit there until his execution.As the execution proceeded, the prison went on modified operation status: Inmates were required to stay in assigned living spaces until the execution was over and all media and witnesses had left.Moore was escorted to the execution chamber and strapped to the table, at which point IV lines were inserted by the IV team, and a heart monitor secured.Witnesses were then escorted to their respective viewing rooms.A curtain was lifted so that witnesses could observe Moore had been prepped for lethal injection, then Frakes gave the order for execution to proceed.The warden checked for consciousness after the first round of drugs was administered before ordering subsequent substances administered. Once all four drugs had been administered, the curtain was lowered.The Lancaster County Coroner officially declared the death, out of sight of the media witnesses. The federal government has ordered 150 million rapid antigen tests to help quickly identify cases in places like schools and disaster zones.Still, we're six months into the global pandemic and experts say we still need better and more frequent testing.Supply chain bottlenecks, long turnaround times and the looming flu season have many pharmaceutical companies scrambling for a better test.“There's been a great push and a lot of innovation has gone into developing new tests that might be able to be used in different scenarios,” said Dr. Emily Landon, an infectious disease specialist at University of Chicago Medicine.Abbott Laboratories’ sixth iteration of the COVID-19 test, known as “Binax Now,” is a compact credit card sized rapid test similar to a home pregnancy test.“You are receiving a nasal swab and then that swab is directly inserted into the card and there's a small pouch there that it's inserted into. Six drops of a buffer had been placed there prior to putting in the swab,” explained John Hackett, Junior Vice President of Applied Research and Technology at Abbott Laboratories.And though it does require a health care worker to administer, no specialty lab equipment is needed to process the antigen test. Results are available in about 15 minutes. The cost is apiece.“So, in 15 minutes you can look at the front of this test and if you see a single line, that would be the control line, and if there's two lines, that would indicate that the individual is positive for SARS-CoV-2,” said Hackett.The test was granted emergency use authorization by the FDA. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) – At a virtual hearing on Tuesday, a San Diego judge ordered that the name could be revealed of the teenager who’s accused of killing a woman on a Carlsbad trail. Images of his face, however, were ordered to remain private.17-year-old Haloa Beaudet's defense counsel denies the allegations.He is suspected of stabbing Lisa Thorborg on Hosp Grove trail in November. “His DNA was found on the victim. We have him running on surveillance camera [video] away from the murder scene in a time that's consistent with the time of death,” said a detective.The prosecution showed a surveillance camera image of him running barefoot on the street, away from the trail at 11:25 a.m. on the day that Thorborg died. “We feel that she died at about 11:10 a.m. so that's about 15 minutes after she was murdered,” said the detective.Other surveillance camera images that were shown in the hearing captured the teen on the same trail in the days after the murder.Detectives said that a few days later, he was arrested for prowling on the trail. Once taken into custody, a sample of his DNA was taken. “Ultimately, they found that DNA from [Haloa’s swabs] matched the male DNA on Ms. Thorborg's shorts,” said a detective.Detectives also said that a pair of flip flops that they believe belong to the teen were discovered near Thorborg. His defense attorney argued that Thorborg may have discovered and picked up those flip flops, which was how she got his DNA on her.The teen's attorney said that there's no motive for a murder.
