SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Friends of Anthony Womack, the teenager who died after jumping from Sunset Cliffs Wednesday, spent the morning joining a local car club to wash cars in National City, in exchange for funeral donations."He was just like a happy person," said Sweetwater High School student, Sarah Seineke. "He was always around school laughing. He was really good person to everybody...that's why everyone is so affected by it."When members of Diego Style Car Club heard about Womack's tragic death, they knew they wanted to help.RELATED: Loved ones remember student who died at Sunset CliffsThe crew showed up to the Church of God of Prophecy on Epsilon Street and were set up to begin the washes by 8 a.m. that would go until the afternoon."It's been hard the last couple of days," said Llamas, who's daughter was close friends with Womack and asked for the fundraiser."When your kid hurts, you know we hurt also," he said. "She came to us and she asked us if we could do something for her friend."The community showed up, car after car stopped by the church leaving cash and comforting the teens who have lost someone who meant so much."I hope they remember his vibe as a person," said Seineke. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For some people who catch the coronavirus, their symptoms can last for months. Researchers are calling these patients who now test negative but still experience symptoms "long haulers." Doctors are calling the long hauler problem a big mystery.It's a new phenomenon of a new virus, stumping even the brightest researchers and doctors."I have to tell him, I don't know," Dr. Zehui Tan with Sharp Rees Stealy Rancho Bernardo said.Dr. Tan is treating an otherwise very healthy 24-year-old man who tested positive for COVID-19 in September. She says after he quarantined for 14 days, most of his symptoms went away. He retook the test, and it came back negative. But the good news was short-lived. A month later, he ended up in the ER once again."His blood test is normal, chest is fine, but they found an abnormality in the EKG -- an inflammation of the heart. It can be a complication after COVID," Dr. Tan said.Researchers believe about 10% of COVID-19 patients see a relapse in symptoms. These "long haulers" now test negative for COVID but still experience symptoms that include coughing, fatigue, body aches, shortness of breath, loss of taste and smell, and brain fog."Almost three months after the COVID infection, he's still not feeling right," Dr. Tan said.Researchers say there does not seem to be a consistent reason or type of patient who becomes long-haulers."We see people die long from COVID, and I have a 92-year-old just fully recovered, so you just never know what's going to happen in your body once you get this COVID," Dr. Tan said.So it could be a long road ahead until her patient feels like himself again."We don't know," Dr. Tan said. "The only thing we can give is offer lots of support, treat them symptomatically, and then just watch and wait."Experts say patients who had bad respiratory issues may develop permanent lung damage. However, those who lost their sense of taste and smell will likely get those senses back. 1973

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Democrats have secured control of two of the most powerful agencies in our region - the city and the county.San Diego will soon have a democratic mayor and an 8 to 1 advantage on the City Council. Couple that with Democrats flipping the County Board of Supervisors after years of Republican control, and it appears a whole new philosophy is on the way."I've been waiting 20 years,” said Nicole Capretz, who heads the Climate Action Campaign. “This is, I mean, decades in the making.”Climate Action Campaign has fought the Republican-controlled Board of Supervisors for years over how it handles the environment, prevailing in court over the county's climate plan.“They've twice had to rescind their climate plan publicly, which is unprecedented,” Capretz said.Capretz said she expects things to change in January, when the board will flip to a 3-2 Democrat advantage. That is expected to shift how the county addresses key issues like the environment, public health, and housing - in other words, no more sprawling back country developments that many times wind up challenged in a public vote.“We have wasted so much energy and so much time debating things that were not legally valid and should not have been done,” said County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher.Meanwhile, over at City hall, the Democrats will expand their veto proof advantage on the city council from 6-3 to 8-1. Republican Chris Cate is now the lone member of the G.O.P. on the council. “I think there needs to be a better job of communicating what we're about here locally as San Diegans, and getting our message out about what we feel is the best role of government in providing services to residents,” Cate said.The city has more than twice as many registered Democrats as Republicans, according to the registrar.San Diego’s new mayor and city council will be sworn in this December.The new board of supervisors will take over in January. 1932

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For the first time since an accident that nearly took her life, Korren Grada is speaking out. Her hope is to save others from suffering the same fate. Two hit-and-run drivers ran into Grada, leaving her to die. She tells 10News - it all started with a blind date in 2017.  310
