A Solon man was conned out of 0 earlier this month after a scammer told him he was holding his father hostage with a gun to his head.According to a Solon police report, the 22-year-old victim thought the scam was real because the caller knew his name.The scammer told the victim to go to the nearest Walmart and wire the money to a person in Puerto Rico or his father would be killed. The victim, who was in Pennsylvania at the time, drove to the nearest Walmart and sent the money as requested. He paid a total of 1.50 for the transaction, including the service fee.The victim told police the whole ordeal lasted around five hours. After he wired the money, the victim reached out to his father, who said he was not in any danger and had been at work.  787

A Michigan hospital is facing a federal lawsuit alleging racial discrimination by a nurse who says she was told not to care for a patient because of her race.Teoka Williams works as a Registered Nurse at Beaumont Health's campus in Dearborn. Her lawsuit alleges that while working on the unit on Oct. 2, she overheard a patient say she did not want a "Black B****" taking care of her.Williams claims she told the clinical manager about the comment and that clinical manager then talked to the patient, who told her she did not want Williams to care for her.The clinical manager then allegedly told the patient that she would "move" Williams and that the patient would not have to see her anymore.The clinical manager then told Williams she was not to go into the patient's room and if either patient in the room needed care a white nurse named Olivia was required to go into the room, according to the suitThe lawsuit alleges that there were times when the patients in the room needed care and Williams was forbidden from doing so because of her race.Williams' lawsuit contends that she told Human Resources about the incident and was told that patient requests are honored all the time and that the next time it happened, she would be taken off the assignment altogether.The lawsuit contends Beaumont violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. A Southwest flight from Nashville to Phoenix had to circle around and come back to Nashville after the plane hit a bird.The flight took off from Nashville International Airport Wednesday around 5:13 a.m. local time.The flight path showed Flight 577 circle from west to north, turning back south to head back to the airport shortly after takeoff.Scripps station WTVF in Nashville learned the flight had to land due to an Alert 1, meaning the plane possibly had a minor electrical or mechanical problem. Airline officials confirmed the plane experienced a bird strike.No injuries or other issues have been reported.The plane was taken out of service for maintenance, and the airline said they're working with affected passengers to help them on to their destinations.The incident comes just a day after one person died when a Southwest flight made an emergency landing at the Philadelphia airport when an explosion damaged an engine and broke a window. 978

A Nashville family celebrated a World War II veteran's 99th birthday this Memorial Day weekend with cake and a lot of war stories.Joe B. Davis fought three years with the 1st Infantry Division from November 1942 to November 1945. He was stationed in Algeria, Tunisia, and Sicily."I was in Infantry, you see, they had it pretty rough. Good ole Infantry. I would've been in D-Day if I hadn't gotten wounded in Sicily," he said.On Sunday, Davis spent the afternoon with his family made up of five generations.Every year, his family listens to his war stories and sings happy birthday to him. His birthday is more special as it falls before Memorial Day."We try to celebrate his birthday the best we can every year, just not because he's our grandfather, but also because tomorrow is a very special day being Memorial Day. So we celebrate everybody," granddaughter Christine Gallegos said.Gallegos and her family said Davis' memories about surviving war and his stories he tells them are something they cherish."To be able to still talk to us and still tell memories because a lot of people do not have the mindset like he has at 99 years old. He makes sure that he still calls me.
