SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The FBI and police are asking for the public’s help identifying a San Diego bank robbery suspect.Police say on March 6 around 10:45 a.m., a man robbed the Chase Bank on the 1700 block of Rosecrans Street.The man passed a note to the teller demanding cash and threatening to use a weapon. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The journey has come to an end for hundreds of migrants seeking asylum in the U.S.A large caravan arrived in Tijuana within the last week and have waited until Sunday to cross the border into San Diego.Late Sunday afternoon, members of the caravan plan to turn themselves in to customs agents seeking asylum.Most of the roughly 400 migrants in the caravan are women and children who have been staying in shelters, seeking legal counsel before trying to cross the border.RELATED: Migrant caravan warned asylum may lead to separation from childrenBorder patrol agents released a statement Saturday saying several groups associated with the caravan have been illegally climbing a scrap metal border fence.The statement warned anyone with the caravan to “think before you act.” The Secretary of Homeland Security also said in a statement earlier this week that anyone seeking asylum “may be detained while their claims are adjudicated.”Protesters say the group is taking advantage of U.S. immigration laws. A group called San Diegans for Secure Borders plans to protest at Friendship Park.They say the migrants are unwelcome and that their claims for asylum are false. A protest was held on both sides of the border Sunday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The coronavirus pandemic has brought the historic Balboa Park Carousel to a halt. Still, it hasn't halted plans to upgrade the 100-year old attraction."We did make lemonade out of lemons here," says John Bolthouse, the Executive Director of the Friends of Balboa Park.The group started a capital campaign fundraiser three years ago, hoping to raise million to overhaul the carousel. When the coronavirus pandemic hit, they saw an opportunity in the closure."We did the best to take advantage of it," Bolthouse says. "People stepped up, and they saw that there was a need and an opportunity to get these things done."A fundraising push brought in 0,000 in 30 days, bringing the total amount raised to .4 million. With the extra cash on hand, the Friends of Balboa Park accelerated the schedule for remaking the ride.They've repainted several of the animals, restoring them to the original design. The group also rewired the entire carousel lighting system. That included changing over every bulb to safer energy-efficient LED bulbs.It also allowed them to bring back some light fixtures that had been removed for safety reasons."100 years ago carousels were burning down due to electrical fires," says Manager Bill Brown. "It's going to be a huge improvement. I think people are going to notice when we reopen."Brown hired a contractor to help with big projects. He also has a team of four people who help work on the carousel every Tuesday.One of the animals that Brown just finished painting is a Golden Retriever, which has a special meaning to one of the donors."We named the dog Goldie George," says Julie Cowan Novak. "Goldie in honor of my three-year-old granddaughter and George in honor of my hundred-year-old uncle."Cowan Novak's family donated ,000 to adopt the animal. She says seeing the work continue has been a silver lining to the Pandemic."I think the carousel is really a balance for what we've all gone through," says Cowan Novak. "It's just sort of a bright light."The Pandemic has also brought some challenges to the ride.The Friends of Balboa Park had to furlough most of their staff from the loss of ride revenue. They've also put bigger plans to revamp the carousel plaza on hold.Bolthouse also says he doesn't know when they'll be able to reopen. Like other theme parks and ride operators, the carousel is still waiting on the state and county to release guidelines for reopening.But, when they get the green light, they plan to have as much of the restoration work as possible finished."We did the best to take advantage of it," Bolthouse says. The FDA sees the public health value in expanding the availability of COVID-19 testing through safe and accurate tests that may include home collection, and we are actively working with test developers in this space," the agency said in a release.The problem with the fake kits, other than being fraudulent, is they could delay consumers from seeking medical care. Anyone who believes they have symptoms resembling the novel coronavirus (which are fever, coughing, and shortness of breath) is asked to contact their medical provider, who will help determine if they need to be tested."We have already identified and issued warning letters to companies found selling and promoting fraudulent items, and we expect additional such actions will be forthcoming," the FDA said.Anyone who believes they have found a vendor selling fake testing kits can report them to the FDA. 1570

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The next time you hop in your car and drive through North Park, you could encounter one of 18 new traffic circles aimed to slow down drivers and promote caution and awareness. The executive director of SANGAG, Hasan Ikhrata, spoke Wednesday about the status of 18 intersection makeovers that include roundabouts similar one off Landis and Utah."It's obvious cars and bikes don't mix well together, especially if there's speeding involved so to overcome these we try our best to do things like this, but also make sure where we can, separate bikes from traffic so residents can bike without fear of being hit by a car," Ikhrata said.So far, million has been dropped for the Georgia Meade & Landis Bikeway project, funded by TransNet. Construction for the new additions are halfway done and although some neighbors aren't so keen about the new roadways, "people who want to go fast do go fast still, they still race. They have enough room to almost go straight through the circle." Others like 11-year North Park resident, Andrea, Linan, already feel more at ease, "traffic on this street especially, people go fast. I do cycling and you just have to be really careful about not getting hit so I don't mind roundabouts."SANDAG said since stay at home orders, the amount of people riding bikes went up 12%. SANDAG's executive director said despite conflicting arguments regarding the amount spent on the Bikeway project, "we have the data to support investing more in the Bikeway program, and I hope San Diego will have a connected network that's safe for our residents."The project has been in the works since 2013.
