SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Officials are seeking the public's help to identify a young woman who was hit and killed on Interstate 5 near the San Clemente Border Patrol station almost two weeks ago.The Hispanic female, believed to be in her late teens to early 20s, was hit while trying to run across northbound I-5 lanes at about 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 9.She may have recently traveled to the country from Mexico or another Central American country, according to Medical Examiner investigator Tessa Lee.RELATED: Unaccompanied girl hit, killed walking on Interstate 5 near San Clemente border station"We are hoping that someone may recognize this young woman so we can identify her and notify her family," Lee said.A fingerprint search in the FBI and U.S. Border Patrol databases came back with no matches.The woman had brown eyes, long hair, weighed about 111 pounds, and was 5-feet 1-inches tall. She didn't have any identification at the time of her death.She was, however, wearing distinctive clothing: A maroon shirt with repeating cartoon prints and the word "travels" on it, jeans with a stitched design on a brand tag reading "Eemociones," and gray high-top sneakers with a heart on the sides and turquoise metallic studding.Officials have released a sketch of the woman as she would've appeared while alive.Anyone who may have any information about the woman's identity is asked to call the Medical Examiner's Office at 858-694-2905 and mention case number 2018-01951. 1496

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Only 92.5 percent of San Diego County’s kindergartners were up to date on all of their vaccinations during the 2018-2019 school year, below the recommended rate.It was a slight .7 decrease from the previous year’s 93.2 percent, according to a report released by the California Department of Public Health. California as a whole also slightly fell below the 95 percent vaccination rate recommended by health experts. “We know that there are individuals that don’t believe in vaccinations and people that homeschool their kids, that’s a population,” said Dr. Wilma Wooten with the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. Wooten says the drop shouldn’t cause panic, but should make families more aware of the importance of vaccinating their children. She said the county is doing its part by responding in three different ways: policies, practices and programs. That includes legislation like the state ban on personal belief exemptions and also CDC recommendations. Wooten says the most important thing is to make sure all parents are aware of the age appropriate vaccines that not only their children, but all family members should have. Wooten says education is key to avoid the risk of contracting and spreading serious illnesses, like the highly contagious measles outbreak across the United States. She said the county has been doing community outreach about the importance of being vaccinated, especially as more people travel overseas during the summer months.“If an individual with measles is put into a room with ten other individuals, 9 out of 10 individuals will contract the illness, it is that contagious,” said Wooten. “It’s very important that all individuals, children, adults, as well as our seniors get the age appropriate vaccinations.” 1791

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One country that was hit especially hard early on during this coronavirus pandemic was Italy.A former San Diego resident living in Milan said things have finally started returning to normal after a strict lockdown that lasted longer than two months.“There’s a feeling of hope,” said Bea Pesenti. “Obviously now it’s in a rebuilding phase.”Pesenti and her fiancé, Wilson, moved from San Diego to Milan in August of 2019. 10News first interviewed Pesenti in March when Italy was struggling with the spread of COVID-19.“We have been in the heart of it,” she said. “When I spoke to you last, the situation felt really dramatic because we really were in ground zero.”The couple was holed up in their Milan apartment for more than two months.“We were in a very, very severe lockdown,” she explained. “You heard the sirens, and you really just felt this heavy energy.”Fast forward today, Pesenti said she finally sees a return to a sense of normalcy.“The lockdown has ended, the businesses have reopened,” she said. “We immediately saw family because that was the priority for us. Kind of enjoyed being able to take bike rides and going to the park but still limiting our contact.”She said businesses have new safety guidelines in place, and face masks are required in public.There were 70 deaths reported in the country on Thursday, a drastic drop from the 919 reported on March 27.“I think people really needed to have this easement and get back to life,” she said. “Not only from an economic standpoint but being locked in your house for 80 days is just unnatural.”Pesenti hopes things will go smoothly as more of the country begins reopening.“We haven’t had this second wave, so to speak, so hopefully it continues this way,” she said.And she has a piece of advice for San Diegans as our restrictions start to loosen, “I hope people really, really think hard and make the right decisions even as things ease up, still be mindful and considerate of other people’s comfort level.”A restriction on travel between Italian regions is expected to be lifted in early June, however, officials warn that could change if there is a spike in the number of positive COVID-19 cases. 2195

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for two men suspected in a downtown San Diego shooting spree that left five people injured Monday night.According to San Diego police, the gunfire was reported just after 11 p.m. at several locations in the East Village neighborhood, about three blocks east of Petco Park's tailgate parking lot.The shooting happened not long after the San Diego Padres wrapped up their game against the Washington Nationals at Petco Park.Police said four people were in the 500 block of 15th Street, near Island Avenue, when two men dressed in dark clothing approached the group and opened fire.Moments later, and several blocks from the initial shooting scene, a fifth person was shot in the 1800 block of Island Avenue.All five shooting victims suffered what were considered to be non-life threatening injuries, according to police.Police said the suspected shooters were described as black men between 19-25 years old and 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall. The men were last seen fleeing westbound from the area.A witness in the area told 10News that he heard about a dozen gunshots coming from different locations and two vehicles speeding from the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police released a sketch Thursday depicting the suspect of a sexual assault at Black's Beach near La Jolla Shores this week.San Diego Police say the female victim was jogging on the beach Wednesday when she was sexually assaulted. The suspect slapped the woman's buttocks twice and grabbed her in the genital area before she broke free and called for help.Officers responded by did not find the man. The suspect is described as a Black man between 30 and 40 years old, with short to no hair and an earring in one ear. The man was naked at the time of the attack, police said.Anyone with information on this incident or any other information about the suspect is asked to call SDPD's Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 742
