(KGTV) — Universal Pictures has decided not to release its upcoming movie, "The Hunt," following two recent mass shootings and backlash over its plot. The R-rated film, starring Hilary Swank, Betty Gilpin and Emma Roberts, depicts a group of wealthy elites hunting humans for sport. Last week, Universal faced backlash for airing ads for the film following recent mass shootings in Texas, California, and Ohio that left more than 30 people dead. The film's website now shows a statement from Universal, reading: "While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for the hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film."Before the film's pending release, "The Hunt" had already received its share of criticism.Though he didn't name the film directly, a day prior the Universal's decision President Trump weighed in on Twitter, saying, "Liberal Hollywood is racist at the highest level, and with great anger and hate." 1237

(KGTV) - The state Supreme Court started hearing oral arguments Tuesday in San Francisco over San Diego’s pension changes that were approved by voters six years ago.More than 65 percent of San Diegans voted for Proposition B, the "Citizens Pension Reform Initiative" which switched most new city workers to a 401(k) plan instead of a guaranteed pension.Ever since then the measure has been challenged by labor unions. The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) has been trying to overturn the pension cutbacks in court and now it’s in front of the state Supreme Court. The court will review the Fourth District Court of Appeal’s 2017 ruling on the issue. The focus then was on whether former San Diego city leaders illegally put Prop B on the ballot because they did not meet and confer with the labor union first. The appellate court ruled in favor of the city then. Now, political analyst John Dadian says if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the labor union, the city could be upside-down millions of dollars, directly impacting taxpayers.“Taxpayers should be very scared,” said Dadian.  “They could have to go back and retroactively give the original pension benefits to the new 3,000 employees and that would be horrendous.”Dadian says there is still hope for the city if the court rules in favor of the union.“If it rules against the city they have several options, they could craft a new one (prop) to go back on the ballot and it could possibly go to federal court,” said Dadian. After Tuesday’s hearing, the court has 90 days to make a ruling. 1575

A Bay County, Mich. man was bitten by a pet cobra and given 28 vials of antivenom from Florida's Miami-Dade County.According to the Detroit Medical Center, the 26-year-old Pinconning Township man was bitten on July 14 by an Albino Monocled Cobra he was keeping as a pet.He was taken to the hospital after becoming nauseated, vomiting and drowsy. He then suffered respiratory paralysis and stopped breathing from the venom, where he was taken to the Detroit Medical Center where he was given the antivenom.Toxicology at the DMC first contacted the Toledo Zoo and eight vials of general antivenom were sent to the DMC and administered to the patient within a half hour of arrival. The antivenom covers some but not all poisonous snakes, and it had little effect on the patient as he continued to worsen. After, toxicology contacted the Miami-Dade Emergency Response Team which dispatched 20 vials of antivenom and administered to the patient. The monocled cobra is native to the Asian countries of India, China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, as well as Malaysia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Nepal, and Thailand. Its venom is highly potent and among the fasting acting of all snakes', with death arriving as soon as an hour after a bite, according to Reptiles Magazine. 1272
