Lawyers for Breonna Taylor allege in court records that she was targeted in a police operation to gentrify a neighborhood in western Louisville. Taylor was shot and killed back in March by Louisville Metro Police officers when police conducted a “no-knock raid” on her home. Thinking the police officers were intruders, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, allegedly shot at police.Officers returned fire, striking, and killing Taylor.According to the lawsuit, which was filed Sunday in Jefferson Circuit Court on behalf of Taylor's family, lawyers said there were plans underway for a "high dollar, legacy-creating real estate development" for Elliot Avenue. Taylor's ex-boyfriend Jamarcus Cordell Glover was renting a home on the street and it created a "roadblock" for the project, court documents stated."The police unit's efforts to clean house on Elliott became so outrageous, unlawful, corrupt, and reckless that a bogus, no-knock search warrant was obtained for the home of Breonna Taylor, a woman with no criminal history, no drugs in her home, no targets in her home, and whose home was more than 10 miles from Elliott Avenue," lawyers stated in the court documents.Lawyer's Ben Crump and his co-counselors Sam Aguiar and Lonita Baker issued a statement about the refiling.“Connecting the dots, it’s clear that these officers should never have been at Breonna Taylor’s home in the first place, and that they invaded the residence with no probable cause," they said in a joint press release. "The officers who robbed Breonna of her life -- and Tamika Palmer of her daughter -- exhibited outrageous, reckless, willful, wanton, and unlawful conduct. As a consequence, the city lost one of its most precious essential frontline workers, who risked her life daily to save her fellow residents in a pandemic. But this world “almost doesn’t feel real,” she says.Even though the real world has changed, the challenges most new graduates face haven’t. Here’s what the class of 2020 can do to answer three essential post-graduation questions during the ongoing pandemic.Can you get a job?The job market looked strong for 2020 graduates before the economy took a hit from the coronavirus. A survey in fall 2019 by the National Association of Colleges and Employers projected a 5.8% increase in hiring over the previous year.Of course, much has changed.“What [graduates] are facing now is just a horrendous market,” says Edwin Koc, director of research, public policy and legislative affairs for NACE. “There really isn’t any other way to put it.”A survey in 2018 from the recruitment agency Randstad found that the average job search lasts five months. Koc says it may take more time — and effort — to land a job in the current market. Here are some ways to improve your situation:Be persistent with potential employers but understand if they can’t give you a quick answer.Look to your college career center for help, like connecting you with alumni at companies that are hiring.Consider transitional work or opportunities outside your desired field.Fallon, for example, plans to pursue a career in nonprofit work. Options tied to your income could give you breathing room once repayment starts.Unverzagt says your top financial priority now should be starting an easily accessible emergency fund. LAKE CLARKE SHORES, Fla. — A Florida family is securing their home after two of their cats were shot in the back with a pellet gun, forcing them to be euthanized. Police are looking for whoever is responsible. First, it was Peanut, a black kitten, and then Fritz, a 4-year-old white and orange cat back in March and April, respectively.They came home to their owner, Debbie Hiatt, with a wound in their back and their hind legs dragging back in the spring. “The biggest thing for me was just wanting to find someplace else to live. Because I don’t trust anyone,” Hiatt said in an interview. In X-rays, you can see a single pellet lodged in each one of their spines A veterinarian would have no choice but to put them down. Peanut was the hardest. “His front was so full of life but nothing in the back. Even Fritz was hard, but the baby? It was a lot harder with the baby,” Hiatt said. Since then, taking no chances, she and her husband John had cameras installed around their home and secured their back porch for their remaining cats and dogs. She says six other cats have inexplicably gone missing over the last year. “It’s not fair to the animals. They don’t know. And what they could have done is come to me and said 'hey, keep your animals out of my yard.' And then at that point in time, we would have done this probably a lot sooner. And then I would have still have Peanut. And Fritz,” she said. Lake Clark Shores police say they have identified a person of interest but haven’t made an arrest yet.“Catch the person. I’m going to catch the person either doing it to another animal. Hopefully not any of mine. But eventually, they’ll get caught,” Hiatt said.  1735
