OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — One of the women killed last weekend in a double homicide at an Otay Mesa home has been identified as an educator of foster parents for more than two decades.Deb Stolz, 65, worked for Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District training foster parents for more than 20 years with the district's Foster, Adoptive & Kinship Care Education Program, according to the college district. She was one of the two women killed outside of an Otay Mesa home on Sunday. Her daughter, 37-year-old Elizabeth Stolz, was also shot and killed."Most likely, you wouldn’t have seen Deb on the Grossmont College campus because she spent her time training resource parents in the community. Deb played an integral role in the program through her training and support to countless resource parents for foster youth in San Diego County," a statement from the district read. "Barbara Wojtach, Program Manager for the program, described Deb as the 'Mother Teresa of foster care.' She was more than just a trainer for resource parents – she was a mentor, teacher and supporter for resource parents who were struggling with the challenges of foster care."The district says Stolz was a single parent of eight children, four of them through adoption."Grossmont College’s program for foster care education is responsible for training all the resource parents in San Diego County and is the largest of its kind in the state. Deb was an important part of that program and she will be deeply missed," Stolz said.Police say 31-year-old Justice Love Peace, also known as Jeremiah Alfred Horton, allegedly shot and killed Stolz and her daughter during a custody dispute at a home in the 4300 block of Ebersole Drive sometime around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. He was reportedly there to pick up his 6-month-old son.Peace then took his son from the home. The boy was later found safe with Peace's wife at her Rolando-area home. Police say Peace fled to Mexico after the shooting, where he was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound days later. 2054

Over the last week, Arizona's explosion in coronavirus cases has made it the No. 1 global pandemic hot spot.According to the New York Times, Arizona topped the list of states and countries with a high rate of virus spread than any other state or country. The newspaper's research, which ranks countries and states with the most new confirmed coronavirus cases over the past week -- adjusted for population -- lists Arizona No. 1, with about 3,300 cases per 1 million in population. Florida (2,700) and South Carolina (2,300) follow. Bahrain (2,200) is No. 4.In response to the ranking, a spokesperson for Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey Wednesday morning said the New York Times analysis lacks context, citing testing statistics from other countries -- including Brazil. While the testing disparities may explain differences in comparisons to other countries, Arizona is still among the states with the most new cases per capita in the U.S.Here is the full response from Ducey spokesperson Patrick Ptak:Testing - if you aren’t testing, it doesn’t mean you have fewer cases, just that you know less about them. For example, AZ has done 8,615 test per 100K. Brazil has done 1,435.Arizona has been working hard to increase testing, with more on the way.Daily Testing - In fact, Brazil is currently testing 0.025 per 100k people per day. By contrast, yesterday, Arizona reported 12,212 tests (and this was far from our highest day in the past week) which works out to 167 tests per 100K on that one day alone.Positivity rate – both Brazil (33%) and Peru (39.9%) have a higher positivity rate than Arizona. This, in combination with their much lower testing, suggests the outbreaks in these places are much larger than is being reported. Likewise, New York’s positivity rate during its peak was more than double what AZ is seeing now.None of this is to diminish the situation in Arizona – it is serious and the State is working to address it, but this reporting is misleading at best. This article was written by Phil Villarreal for KGUN. 2029

Police say one person was fatally shot in Portland, Oregon, as Black Lives Matter protesters and people from a large caravan of President Donald Trump supporters clashed in the streets. It wasn’t clear if the shooting Saturday night was linked to fights that broke out as a caravan of about 600 vehicles was confronted by protesters in the city’s downtown. Police say the caravan had left the area about 15 minutes before gunshots rang out. Oregon’s largest city has been the site of nightly protests for three months since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Trump referenced the city in a speech Thursday at the Republican National Convention. 668
