CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A Chula Vista company that sells health and wellness products received a letter from the Federal Trade Commission Friday warning company representatives to halt alleged claims that its products could treat or prevent COVID-19.Youngevity International Inc. was issued a letter stating that claims made on the company's website or through social media posts "unlawfully advertise that certain products treat or prevent" coronavirus.The FTC alleges one such claim made by Youngevity "business opportunity participants or representatives" includes a statement that with certain company products, "your body will be able to withstand and eliminate Covid-19 and the vaccines forthcoming for Covid-19."The agency also states that a link on the company's website marked "FlattenTheCurve Shop Immune Support" redirects users to the company's online store, where various "immune support" products are available for sale.Phone calls made to the company were transferred to Youngevity CEO Stephen Wallach, whose voicemail mailbox was full Friday afternoon.The FTC's letter states that it is unlawful to advertise that a product can prevent, treat or cure human disease without scientific evidence or studies substantiating such claims, of which there are none for COVID-19 in relation to Youngevity's products.The letter to Youngevity was one of six sent to companies across the country on Friday. (KGTV) -- Police arrested a 33-year-old transient in connection with a series of fires set in a river bottom area of Chula Vista since early summer.Chula Vista police said Alejandro Gonzalez was taken into custody Sunday after officers responded to a reported brush fire near the 1700 block of Fourth Avenue.According to police, Gonzalez was spotted by officers “walking quickly away from the scene of the fire.” Officers made contact with him and during questioning they found Gonzalez “in possession of several lighters.”Gonzalez was described as a transient known to frequent Chula Vista’s river bottom area.In a news release, police said: “During questioning by officers, Gonzalez admitted to intentionally setting several brush fires in the river bottom area over the past 5 months. Gonzalez claimed he was setting the fires due to hearing voices. Using a laptop, smartphone, or tablet for school, as most Ohio children have done since March, doesn’t necessarily have the same effect as using the same device for social media or games.Still, he encouraged families to closely examine the amount of time they and their children spend using screens every day. He recommended setting aside screen-free times, such as during meals, and encouraging battery-free activities such as reading or playing outside as a healthy complement to children’s daily routines."I think it's very important,” he said. “I think every family is going to have something that's realistic for them. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Authorities have arrested a 44-year-old Casa De Oro man in connection with his husband's murder.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Daniel Scott Jordan was taken into custody Thursday in Reno, Nevada following a joint agency investigation involving San Diego Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force in San Diego, and the USMS Fugitive Task Force in Reno."Jordan was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility as a Fugitive from Justice and will await extradition to San Diego," said sheriff's Lt. (KGTV) - Parents in Chula Vista are horrified after finding out that dozens of children are taking part in what is being called an after-school fight club. Alain Tripp has lived across the street from Bonita Vista Middle School for more than a decade. Once the bell rings, he sees students walk along the canyon trail to go home. But lately, he has been noticing something else. “Every so often I see a group of 15-20 kids. They’ll be standing there and fighting,” Tripp said.Tripp is not the only one who has seen fighting just off campus.Other neighbors said they had witnessed dozens of kids running down the trail on minimum-day Fridays, to participate in organized fights at Discovery Park. One Bonita Vista Middle School student’s mother sent 10News a photo of what appears to be many students scattering after one of the so-called fights. Parents said the students then upload fight videos onto a secret Instagram account, seeking internet fame.“They just see a lot of people who are Youtube famous… A famous Youtuber popping up in their heads and stuff,” Tripp said. “I feel like every year, kids are trying to grow up faster.”Some neighbors told 10News that they have tried to stop the alleged fights, but they say these keep happening. Now, the school is stepping in. 10 News got a copy of the letter sent to parents from Bonita Vista Middle School Principal, Teresa Kramer. 1457
