LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man reportedly armed with a knife was shot by police officers during a confrontation in La Mesa Monday.The shooting happened before 9 a.m. on Fletcher Parkway, at Amaya Drive, La Mesa police told 10News.Police said a 13-year-old girl reported that an unknown man was throwing knives at her and chased her.The girl ran to a sandwich shop to call 911, police told 10News. She was not injured.RELATED: Threats against East County schools investigatedResponding officers located the man on Fletcher Parkway and attempted to take him into custody, but during the confrontation in which police officials said he refused to drop a knife, officers fired at least two shots at the man.The injured man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. LEMON GROVE (CNS) - The Lemon Grove Goodwill store had to be evacuated today after authorities received a report of a grenade being found.Dispatchers were told around 10:30 a.m. that someone found a possibly-functional grenade at the Goodwill on Broadway near Lemon Grove Avenue, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The Bomb and Arson Unit went to the store to investigate.A sheriff's department spokesman said he couldn't confirm if the grenade was determined to be live or not, but said investigators had cleared the scene and the store was safe to enter. 584

But before you grab an empty shopping cart and start hunting for Black Friday-style bargains, you may want to know a few cautions.If earlier Toys R Us closing sales are any indication, among the 200 stores that started liquidating in February, you may want to bring some skepticism along with your wallet. We went to one store at the beginning of its closing sale,and shoppers said they were not impressed.So here are 9 commonly asked questions:1. How big are the discounts? In the first week, they may not be great.  We found signs saying "up to 40 percent off," but most items had much less of a discount than 40 percent?off. Will they discount recent sales prices?  No, as with any liquidation sale, discounts are off full list price. Since the school year has started back up, many now have to juggle work while overseeing at-home learning.Michelle Martel, a professor and the director of clinical training for the University of Kentucky’s psychology department, says it’s OK for parents to feel overwhelmed and admit they need help at times.“If you have family or close friends in the area that could provide support, that’s a great place to start,” said Martel.Beyond that, if you haven’t already, Martel suggests reaching out to your employer to see how your job can be adjusted to fit into a new work-life balance.“Maybe it involves little different hours. Maybe it involves a little bit more flexibility,” she said. “I think presenting your boss with that idea, you know just, ‘Hey, I was thinking this might make things a little bit easier. Then I can get done what I need to get done, but also manage my kids and it might take the stress off everyone.’ I think most bosses really right now would welcome that.”Martel also says self-care is not selfish and that it’s important for parents to take moments for themselves during this challenging time.“Doing those things and not feeling bad about it, like ‘Oh, there’s a million things you could be doing right now,’ but maybe you just need to go take a hot bath or you need to just go out and take a walk or do something for you. (KGTV) - Scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography say atmospheric rivers will be the main source of California's rainfall over the next 80 years.The study, released Tuesday morning, says that could lead to more flooding, more drought and longer wildfire seasons."This region is becoming more sub-tropical and the dry season is expanding," says Alexander Gershunov, a research meteorologist at Scripps. "That is the case with all of the Mediterranean climate regions around the world."Right now, the study says California gets 40-50% of its annual rainfall from atmospheric rivers. Those are long, drawn out rain events that last for days. "The mountains squeeze the rain out of them.""In California, most of the floods, historically, are associated with atmospheric rivers," says Gershunov.
