SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Vector Control officials reported new signs Friday of the potentially dangerous disease tularemia on a trail in Sorrento Valley.Several batches of ticks trapped along Lopez Canyon Trail tested positive for the disease, also known as rabbit fever.The first group of ticks with the disease appeared last week, officials said.County officials posted warning signs for hikers. Vector Control will also expand tick trapping in the area.The best way for people to protect themselves from tick bites include insect repellent for humans and pets, and long-sleeved shirts and pants.Tularemia can be treated with antibiotics but it can be fatal. 679

But with that comes the possibility of more little creatures living off all that glorious foliage. So can San Diegans expect more mosquitoes buzzing around this season? When it comes to mosquitoes, you have to wait and see if more rain equals more bugs. That is because increased rainfall can create more—or fewer—places for mosquitoes to lay eggs and breed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County is seeing far fewer influenza cases at this point in the flu season compared to last year, due in part to coronavirus-related safety measures, according to public health officials.So far this season, the county has recorded 39 influenza cases, compared to 1,220 cases at this point last season. Flu season generally runs from October through May, with flu activity peaking in December and February.The county says it's "very likely" physical distancing, hand washing, and mask-wearing are contributing to the low flu activity."Influenza activity remains very low to date this season in San Diego County. This is very likely due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask-wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19," the county's influenza report said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are looking for two suspects witnesses say were part of a brutal attack where a man beat another man to the ground and hit him in the head with a sledgehammer.Robert Kern was driving on his way to run errands around 2:45 p.m. when he saw a man with long blonde hair pulled into a ponytail, wearing a black shirt and jeans, start attacking another man.He said the men were in the middle of the intersection of the Westbound 94 on-ramp at Kelton Road. Kern said the man punched and kicked the other man to the ground, then used a sledgehammer, hitting the man's head.Kern said a good Samaritan stepped in and broke up the fight, that's when Kern snapped a couple photos for police and called 9-1-1.The man who was attacked was taken to a local hospital. Inside the ambulance the man was writhing in pain.
