Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was confronted at a restaurant in Kentucky on Friday, according to CNN affiliate WLKY.According to WLKY, McConnell, a Republican representing Kentucky, was dining at Havana Rumba in Louisville, Kentucky, with his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, when a group of men approached the couple."Why don't you get out of here? Spectators might have to kiss a decades-old tradition goodbye in Savannah's St. Patrick's Day parade.Women in the crowd are known to dash out into the streets and plant a smooch on uniformed service members marching in the Georgia port city's St. Patrick's Day parade, the second-largest in the United States and third-largest in the world.But military officials and parade organizers are hoping to curb amorous paradegoers this year.The Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee announced last week it wants the pastime to come to a halt, something it's been attempting for years.The practice predates the 1960s but has gotten out of hand over time, said Brian Counihan, general chairman of city's parade committee.Kevin Larson, spokesman for nearby Fort Stewart, said that the military is just asking people to police themselves. It's not a law or a rule. Larson said that the soldiers marching in the parade are at work. They have to maintain their professionalism because they are representing the Army."At the end of the day, we enjoy taking part in these events," Larson said. "But we do need people to respect our soldiers' space."The bystanders running into the streets can also spark safety and security concerns."You can imagine when you have all these people marching, it causes a disturbance," Counihan said.He said the rush interrupts the movement of floats, causes service members to lose their formation and results in huge delays.The parade committee has tried to stop people from rushing into the streets before. Years ago, it told participants on floats not to throw beads or candy out into the crowd as a way to prevent anyone from getting hurt.The Savannah event started more than 190 years ago. About 280 units, including bands, soldiers and floats, march through the downtown streets of Georgia's oldest city.With this year's parade on Saturday, the committee is expecting more than 500,000 to show up, and all the hotels in the area have sold out, Counihan said.Typically, those watching the parade can just run into the streets and plant one on any passing soldier. Larson said that military officials know the bystanders can't be forced to stop."There are some people who like it and some who don't," he said. "It comes down to personal preference."He said that officials have suggested that soldiers who do not want to be kissed can say no or offer a handshake instead.Still, the parade committee chief insists, "We are not party poopers."This is a large event, and we are just trying to discourage people from interfering with these units," Counihan said. Severe weather brought heavy rain, hail and flash flooding to some parts of Maryland.  In Frederick, flood water was so high Tuesday night it covered the tires on cars. Some residents say Market Street was so flooded it looked like a river. Police sent alerts asking residents not to drive on the roads. Emergency crews rescued six people from three vehicles trapped in floodwater.  Click below to see storm pictures from across the state:Businesses in Frederick were also impacted by the storm. The basement of the YMCA on N. Market Street was completely flooded. The first floor had about four to five inches of water. Emergency crews pumped water from inside of the building to help drain it. The YMCA will be closed Wednesday.  So far, no injuries have been reported.   941

Some San Diego voters are making a surprising - and alarming - discovery in their mailboxes.They are receiving duplicate mail-in ballots for the November midterm. "Obviously with such a contested election and everything in the news right now, was this actually something bigger?" said April Segal, a Hillcrest resident who received two ballots.Nearly 70 percent of voters in the county say they will vote via the postal service this November. People from Hillcrest to Tierrasanta to Escondido have reported receiving the extra ballots. San Diego Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said there are protections in place to make sure everyone gets one only one vote. He said duplicates are not uncommon and this year is a bit worse than others because of issues with the new voter registration system at the DMV. "Our office and the statewide system runs duplicate checks to determine matches or potential matches," Vu said. "When a duplicate record is identified, the record is merged, with the most recent registration becoming the official record."Vu said no matter which ballot a person submits, it will ultimately be counted. He said anyone who knowingly submits two ballots would be referred to the district attorney for an investigation of voter fraud. Segal said she recently got married, changed her name and registered to vote. A few months later, when applying for a Real-ID at the DMV, she checked the 'yes' box when it asked if she would like to register to vote. That likely led to the duplicate ballot. "I knew I already was registered, but I thought I should just err on yes so that nothing got messed up by saying no," she said. Segal said she would continue to vote by mail, despite the mix-up.  1758
