SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported 634 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the highest number of new cases reported over one day thus far.The new cases were out of 9,224 tests reported to the county on Friday — a 7% positive result — and bring the region's COVID-19 case total to 22,489 cases.County health leaders also reported seven more deaths due to the virus on Friday. The victims died between July 7 and July 15 and include three women and four men, whose ages ranged from early 50s to mid-90s. All had existing chronic conditions. The county's death toll is now at 472 deaths.Two new community setting outbreaks were also reported, both traced to restaurants, the county says. The county does not name the businesses that community outbreaks are traced to, officials have previously said. San Diego's case rate trigger is greater than 100 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days, while the trigger for investigations is 70% or less within 24 hours of notification over seven days.The county is also still well above the state's case rate threshold of no more than 100 cases per 100,000 people, or more than 25 cases per 100,000 people and higher than 8% positivity.The new numbers come as California announces that counties that are on the state's watch list for 14 consecutive days will not be allowed to reopen for in-person school in the fall. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Lifeguards responded to two reported shark sightings off Scripps Beach Friday morning.San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said the first report came from a surfer at the beach -- located between La Jolla Shores and Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier -- at around 10:30 a.m. As of 4 p.m., there were no additional sightings and the advisory for beachgoers had been lifted from La Jolla Shores beach.The surfer told lifeguards she was about 100 yards from the beach and within the surf line when she saw a six-foot shark “that was not acting aggressively and was heading north,” according to SDFD officials.Lifeguards patrolled the area where the share was seen but did not locate it.SDFD officials also said another surfer told lifeguards of a shark in the area that was also about six feet in length.Lifeguards at the beach are informing beachgoers of the sightings and posted warning signs on the beach.SDFD officials said no city beaches were closed.The sightings come one day after at least three sharks were seen in the waters off Torrey Pines State Beach. 1107

According to the city’s development services department people, more than 200 people went through the permitting process in 2018. “It fits for us to build an additional unit, the ADU since the council changed their ordinances,” said San Diego resident Efrain Conrique. Efrain Conrique has been in the same house since the 1960s but is now planning to build a 1,100 square foot accessory dwelling unit in his backyard. The house is for his granddaughter. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Monday a motion to reduce thousands of marijuana convictions.The motion asks the San Diego Superior Court to reduce 25,000 marijuana convictions, ranging from felonies to misdemeanors, and dismiss another 1,000 misdemeanor convictions completely.“We’ve been a leader in the state and pro-active on giving individuals with marijuana convictions the opportunity to move forward with their lives without a conviction that may have been negatively impacting their lives by restricting their employment or housing,” said Stephan. “This latest motion is the continuation of work that began more than two years ago. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating Monday the discovery of a woman's body in a car parked in the Crown Point neighborhood of Pacific Beach.The decomposed remains were found in a black Acura SUV in the 3700 block of Yosemite Street, a residential area three blocks west of Crown Point Park.Neighbors had called to report the vehicle due to a foul odor.The window on the passenger side of the vehicle was broken by police, according to our 10News crew.Officers said the death did not appear to be suspicious, however they did not release details about the circumstances. 595
