WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House South Lawn and its iconic Rose Garden are undergoing extensive re-sodding and other work after last month’s Republican National Convention turned them into a muddy mess. Crews have been working to repair damage to the public grounds, including browning of the South Lawn and mud patches in the Rose Garden, after the spaces were used as backdrops for President Donald Trump’s convention events. First lady Melania Trump delivered her convention speech in the newly-refurbished Rose Garden and the president formally accepted his party’s nomination on the South Lawn in front of more than a thousand people seated in rows of closely-packed white chairs, despite the ongoing pandemic.“The sod is being replaced at no cost to taxpayers. Additionally, there has been other planned infrastructure work taking place on the south grounds,” said White House spokesman Judd Deere. WASHINGTON (AP) — The deputy White House liaison for the U.S. Agency for International Development has been fired for posting a series of anti-LGBTQ tweets and complaining of anti-Christian bias by her now former colleagues. Officials say Merritt Corrigan was fired Monday just hours after sending the torrent of tweets that also accused Democratic lawmakers of a “corrupt campaign” to oust her from her job. A USAID spokeswoman confirmed that Corrigan was no longer employed by the agency. On Monday, Corrigan took to Twitter to say that “gay marriage isn't marriage" and accuse the media of attacking her for her Christian beliefs. 642

Wasping is not a new and improved way to get rid of those pesky insects; it's a dangerous new drug trend, and it's causing concerns in Summit County, Ohio after three cases were reported in just one week.Inspector Bill Holland said the white foam spray used to eliminate wasps and hornets is being cut with meth by some drug users for a combination high."Some are spraying it on the meth. Some are spraying it in a manner where they can heat it up and then crystalize it, and then once it's crystallized, they can heat it up again and shoot it into their veins," Holland said.In three different cases over the last week, two men and a woman who appeared to be high were arrested.Once inside the Summit County Jail, they began experiencing hallucinations.Holland said the woman became flushed and agitated, and her vitals were off."Her body started to contort. It almost looked like if you spray a wasp, how they can kind of shrivel up and their body kind of cinches up," Holland said. "That's kind of how she looked."The woman, and one of the male inmates, were taken to a hospital for treatment, then returned to the jail."Once it's all over, they have no recollection of what happened," Holland said.Dr. Garry Thrasher with Oriana House said smoking or injecting the insecticide in combination with meth is very dangerous."Methamphetamines by themselves can cause psychotic behaviors, sometimes paranoia and even violence, and combining it with another substance that's abused is very problematic," Dr. Thrasher said.Both Holland and Thrasher have read about similar cases in the U.S., but the incidents documented at the jail were the first cases they've heard about locally.Dr. Thrasher urged people not to take a chance with the drug combo and stressed there are many treatment facility options for those struggling with addiction or abuse.Holland worries that others will make the foolish decision to try wasping, so he's sending out a warning about the severity of this new practice."It can be deadly for people and we don't want that to happen, but we do want to make people aware of what's going on out there," Holland said.  2212

WELLINGTON, Fla. - Golf courses and grade-schoolers don’t always go hand in hand but for one 6-year-old in Wellington, it’s a perfect match.The first-grader in question is Brian “Little B” Kelley. He has a long list of hobbies, but at the top of the list is golf.“Every night I have dreams about golf,” said Kelley.He picked it up from his dad, Brian “Big B” Kelley, an admittedly average golfer. The two spent plenty of weekends watching pro golfers on TV before Little B could even talk. Little B caught the bug, big time.“I just watch the pros and learn it,” he said.It mystified the adults around him, including his dad who said, “ next thing you know he’s got this amazing swing that I want.”There’s more to this story than a kid with a ton of talent, "Little B’s" parents Brian and Elizabeth are open about his adoption in Kansas City six years ago when he was three weeks old.“He was five pounds at a month old so I had him in the palm of my hand,” said Big B.His mom, Elizabeth Kelley, describes him as the gift that keeps on giving.“It just is incredible and yes he’s got an incredible talent with golf but that’s not the thing that makes him special, it’s him and who he is,” she said.A focused flexible and driven athlete, his caddy Chris Arbour says he brings an "X factor" to the game and that’s become a priority.“Be kind to people,” is the way Little B describes it.Arbour said, “I’ll be his friend for the rest of my life if he lets me.”He says it’s already made him a better person.
