The woodworking elves of the La Costa Glen senior living community in Carlsbad have spent nearly a year creating 100 handmade toys of all shapes and sizes.The toys have up to 39 pieces, crafted with various types of wood like walnut, cherry, and mahogany. CHANDLER, AZ — The Arizona Attorney General’s Office says Mikal Lee Smith, the son of ex-NFL coach and current head of the University of Illinois football program Lovie Smith, has been indicted after a Chandler police investigation accusing him of running a prostitution ring.According to a release, between December 2018 and September 2019, Mikal Smith and Aprel Mae Rasmussen operated and maintained an illegal prostitution enterprise.In one instance, Mikal Smith and Rasmussen allegedly induced and encouraged an adult female victim to “engage in acts of prostitution for over two months.”Mikal Smith reportedly used surveillance and threats of retaliation to keep the victim under his control.It’s unclear how many other victims, if any, were involved. Or a billion bath tubs. The "watermark" being celebrated Thursday with a gathering of officials, including former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall and Poseidon CEO Carlos Riva. All sharing a toast with a glass of fresh water produced by the plant. Water so clean once it passes through the reverse osmosis system, say plant officials, they have to add mineral back into it. "The water molecule makes it through," says Poseidon Community Outreach Director Jessica Jones. "But the salt molecule -or any other impurities, viruses or bacteria- are too large.
