Thousands of elevator permits in San Diego County are out of date, according to the Department of Industrial Relations. In San Diego and Imperial Counties, a DIR spokesperson said there are 12,541 elevator permits issued. Of those, 6,932 are expired. DIR spokesperson Frank Polizzi said there is no penalty for expired permits, “but a unit should not be running if it has been tagged out of service for a maintenance/safety reason.”Team 10 visited several elevators in downtown San Diego and found there was no permit displayed in the elevator at all—including an elevator at Horton Plaza and one operated by the City of San Diego. Polizzi said there are other reasons a displayed permit could be expired, besides the elevator being out of compliance. THORNTON, Colo. – Police have arrested the suspect in a deadly shooting at a Thornton Walmart store.Scott Ostrem, 47, was taken into custody Thursday morning at 72nd and Federal.Witnesses told Thornton Police that Ostrem "nonchalantly" walked into the store Wednesday night, took out a handgun and began firing randomly at people. Two men and a woman were killed."This is a very heinous act," Avila said. The store was evacuated as authorities arrived on scene.Police found the victims in the south entrance. The two men were pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim was transported to Denver Health where she later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have yet to identify the victims.No other physical injuries were reported. However, police say several people received medical attention for anxiety. Several distraught employees could be seen in the parking lot comforting each other.Investigators say there is no indication that terrorism was a motive, but have not ruled anything out at this point. They are still interviewing hundreds of witnesses and going through surveillance video.Special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were helping police in the investigation.The shooting at the busy shopping center forced customers to either hide in the store or frantically run for the doors.Witness Harold Stevens said he was in the store with his son when he heard at least three shots. Futurist Thomas Frey says it’s coming whether we want it or not.   "With all the emerging technology, we still have to work our way through the crappy stages before we get to the good stuff," says Frey.   Delivering food to anyone anywhere is a challenge  "Delivering something like food is a lot messier and a lot more time sensitive than delivering a product we're getting from Walmart or Amazon or something, says Frey."Part of the problem with drones is that we have to get the FAA to OK deliveries like this, and that is not a simple thing to do."   And with the convenience, comes a price.  "Eliminate a lot of human labor in doing something like this, so the reasons companies are pushing this so hard is it gives them a competitive advantage,” explains Frey. “It takes much of the labor costs out of this arrangement."  Overall, the good side of technology usually outweighs the bad, Frey says."See, drones can be very dangerous.
